WHEREAS, it has been observed that there are now several small
motor service shops, motor pool and individuals that constantly utilized
petroleum based products for lubrication of motor vehicles and engines
within the city;
WHEREAS, seldom or with very little attention given by the community is
the practice of simply disposing used oil in our canals, creeks or vacant
lots where they could throw the oil totally unaware of the hazardous
effect it could possibly bring to the environment.
SECTION 3. Scope: This Ordinance shall apply to all small motor service
shops, motor pool and individuals that utilized petroleum based products for
lubrication of vehicles and engines.
SECTION 4. Manner of Storage Used oil shall be contained in a
safety container. The safety container shall be placed in an enclosed
structure with a roof so as to protect it from rain and not to be easily
accessed by unauthorized persons. The container should be checked
regularly for leaks.
The owners of motor shops or individuals who generate used oil
may then coordinate with the authorized transporter for the collection of the
used oil.
SECTION 5. Prohibited Act It shall be unlawful to dispose used oil in
the creeks, rivers, canals or vacant lots.
