Even healthy food items can have harmful effects on your body when consumed

in combination. With years of research, Ayurveda has categorized such

incompatible foods that can wreck havoc with your health. Remove these
combinations from your everyday diet for a healthy life.

Similar to how some chemicals can cause adverse reactions when mixed, food
items can also cause harm to your body when consumed in combination. Such
foods are called incompatible foods. Ayurveda has categorized many such food
items based on the time of consumption, place of consumption, sequence of
consumption, potency, processing, quantity, etc.

What Are The Major Incompatible Foods?

1. Do not consume milk with fruits, coconut, walnut, meat, yogurt, eggs, horse
gram, lentils, and vegetables as it causes disturbances in the digestive
enzymes. Milk has a very sensitive chemical makeup that is easily
imbalanced when combined with the wrong food items.
2. Do not drink milk after eating radish, garlic, green leafy vegetables, and
drumsticks as it can lead to serious skin disorders such as leucoderma,
white spots, urticaria, itching, skin discoloration, etc.
3. Do not combine fruits with food items such as milk, curd, or regular meals.
Fruits, one of the best satvik foods, are an independent meal. When
combined with other foods, they lead to adverse enzymatic combinations
that, in the long term, weaken our digestive system and cause kapha and
pitta troubles.
4. Do not consume honey and ghee together in equal quantities as it
is poisonous. Use them in unequal quantities when needed.
5. Do not boil, heat, or cook honey as it destroys its essence and makes honey
toxic. Consequently, avoid the habit of taking hot water and honey in the
morning.
6. Do not combine lemon with milk, yogurt, cucumber, or tomatoes as it
causes hyperacidity.
7. Do not consume chicken and pork on the same day or in combination as it
causes stress to the gut and leads to the formation of various endotoxins,
which cause protein metabolism imbalances.
8. Do not consume curd or buttermilk at night or heat curd for consumption
as it causes various digestive disorders. Ayurveda attributes the quality of
Abhishyandi (which clogs the gut channels) to most milk products. Our
digestive system is as tired as we are at night. So, eating such foods at night
easily affects our absorption and leads to various nutritional disorders.
9. Do not consume meat with black gram, honey, radish, and germinated
grains because they are Vidahi (substances that usually cause gastric
irritation, leading to heart burn) in nature. When taken together, their
cumulative impact is bad indigestion, heart burns, nausea, restlessness, etc.
10.Do not consume radish or jackfruit with black gram.
11.Do not mix banana with butter milk, curds with dates, black pepper with
fish, and milk with alcohol. They lead to bad kapha formation in the body.
This, in turn, can make you more susceptible to respiratory disorders.
12.Do not store ghee in bronze vessels or plastic containers for more than 10
days as it becomes toxic. Always use steel or glass vessels.
13.Do not mix cooked and uncooked food, for example, salad with a cooked
meal, as it causes incomplete digestion.

Ayurveda classifies food items according to their taste, qualities, and impact on
various parts of the digestive system rather than only on the nutritional content
(carbohydrate, fat, protein, mineral, etc.). All the combinations mentioned above
have adverse cumulative effects on our bodies.

As an auto-immune disorder specialist, I have come across hundreds of patients.

The general observation Ive made is that almost all acquired auto-immune
disorders (secondary irritable bowel disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis,
allergies, etc.) have their root cause in such incompatible food combinations. So it
is best to take care and abstain from such harmful food combinations.
