Reflections on leadership module

The leadership module of the Pre MD program was one of the most enjoyable modules of the program
so far. Having the first lecture on the very fisrt day of the program was a good way to start off. To begin
the program and the module with a model leader such as Prof Janaka de silva was an inspiration. His
references to how he dealt with real world issues that we could easily relate to gave it a more realistic
sense and a good feeling of what it would be like for us in the future. The lecture itself and Prof. De silvas
words of wisdom delivered with such humility was an inspiration to me.

The session by Mr. Harshana was by far the lecture that was the most thought provoking, his style of
delivery and professionalism shone through. In addition to his methods of keeping everyones attention
focused on the sessions, I was moved by the obvious passion and enthusiasm he had for his work as a
professional. It was evident that passion and hard work was essential if one is to perform a quality job
and make an impression on others.

Dr. Madhawa Chandrathilake in his interactive session instilled a few but significant points to address.
The non threatening atmosphere that was created in the class made it so much easier to express
ourselves freely. Taking real world dilemmas on professional ethics and helping us solve those problems
by ourselves was the most useful segment of the session. Understanding the various ways in which
professional dilemmas can occur and the various components of emotional intelligence that need to cme
into play will definitely be hepful n dealing with a dilemma more objectively and successfully as a
professional.

Dr. Sumal nadasenas sessions too was thoroughly inspiring. The most important lesson I learn t from him
was to not to give up on dreams when it gets tough. He also stressed on the importance of writing for at
least half an hour every day. I have tried to incorporate ethis into my daily routine and things to do list.
Knowing that I have to achieve half an hour of writing a day hass helped get a start on writing my
manuscript.

As for the presentation on a leader, I was quite happy to have received the topic on Nelson Mandela as I
had with me his autobiography ; Long walk to freedom However by the time I offered to prepare the
presentation for the group, another member had already commenced work on it. All the members of the
grpup then went through it and made a few revsions. I wish I had been more involved n the work as a
singke member had to undertake most of the burden.
