Course Description
Students will master foundations of the English language. We will participate in activities that develop students
skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing as we center on thematic units as appropriate to students ability. Students
will be able to describe, identify, sort, and list information and ideas as they progress towards the ability to compare and
contrast, sequence, make suggestions and evaluate information among many other skills. Moreover, a variety of activities
will be completed to develop students proficiency, such as multi-media projects, presentations, voice recordings, written
compositions, etc.
As part of this course students will be required to give a process composition in the form of a formal demonstration in front of
the class. This is to be completed entirely without assistance and in English. Students must be fully prepared before
presenting the class, having practiced at home. Furthermore, the presentation should be 5 minutes inn duration, no more
and no less.

GRADING SYSTEM: The DeKalb County School District believes that the most important assessment
of student learning shall be conducted by the teachers as they observe and evaluate students in
the context of ongoing classroom instruction. A variety of approaches, methodologies, and
resources shall be used to deliver educational services and to maximize each students
opportunity to succeed. Teachers shall evaluate student progress, report grades that represent
