State deputys message:

My brother Knights, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is always an exciting time when a new season begins. In !

April, we have the beginnings of a new baseball season. In !
September, the boys of fall embark on a new season.
!
Well, just like these two iconic sports, the Knights of Columbus
has July to kick off a new fraternal year. It is a time when we !
all have a clean slate, and it is our task to write a new chapter in Kenneth F. Latham Jr.
our orders history. State Deputy of
The New York State Council
Well, here in New York, I am glad to say that we have begun a !
new chapter. And I would like to report that we have gotten off to
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a quick start. But, we cannot ease up. We cannot take the
summer off. !

The Knights of Columbus is a FULL year commitment. We must !

continue to do our great charitable work, and we must continually
!!!!!!!!!!!!
recruit new members. If we continue with these efforts, we will
be successful in ALL our endeavors. !!

During the weekend of July 14-16, we had our States

Organizational meeting and installation of officers. It was a
tremendous weekend, as the District Deputies of New York
learned of their responsibilities, and some of our new initiatives,
and programs. Saturday offered a full morning of training and
the response we have received, is that everyone enjoyed the
sessions, and all felt engaged in the process.

The success of this event is to be credited to the team of

Directors who presented their various programs. So, I say thank you to Ed Willie, Rob Graziano, Lou
Pepe, Jim Thompson, and Rocco DErasmo. Also, a big thanks to Administrative State Chairman of
Training Jack McArdle along with Don Remiezski for running the training portals.

We also learned some good news on the C&B front. WE are off to a fast START, but it is ONLY a
start. We must continue the push of C&B books, and under the leadership of Tony Marengo, I feel
confident that we can make great gains in the C&B campaign this year.

The highlight of the weekend most certainly was the celebration of the mass, and the Installation of
State Officers. On behalf of all in attendance, I would like to thank His Excellency, Bishop Octavio
Cisneros, Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn, for celebrating the mass and offering a most compelling
homily. Also, a thank you to the Associate State Chaplains who could make the event, and who
concelebrated the mass. Fr. Brian McWeeney, Fr. Michael Gelfant and Fr. Jeff Nowak.

I also want to congratulate all of my fellow Officers on their installation, and to our worthy District
Deputies, who I had the honor of installing.

In closing, I wish all a safe summer, and lets remember to keep recruiting, and lets make ALL eligible
Catholic men a new member

KENN ET H LATHAM JR.

This was certainly one of the most unique situations to hold both a Formation Degree

Ceremonial can be performed at any time, and anywhere.
This highly skilled and experienced team Made the Time and performed these two
Ceremonials at the Organizational meeting in Villa Roma for one very special Knight.
Congratulations to - Father Janvier Marie Gustave Yameogo.

Father Janvier will be traveling from the U.S., and was extremely grateful to these
Knights for this opportunity to fulfill his dream and complete his journey to full
Knighthood.

MEMBERSHIP&DIECTORS&MESSAGE&

Dear Leaders of the NY State Council,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

!
Welcome to the NEW Membership Team for the NY State Council!
New in two ways:
- A new administration under our Worthy State Deputy Ken Latham AND
- A new way we have organized our State Membership Team, all of whom are excited to have the
opportunity to serve you and your councils as we work together to grow our our order.

Our Fraternal Year End numbers from June 30th clearly indicate a need for us to:
* Host and report more Admission (1st) Degrees
* Recruit Younger members to secure the long term future of the NY State Council & the order
* Improve Retention of our Brother Knights
* Engage many more councils in striving for their Star Council and Columbian Award recognitions

Our NYS Council Summertime Incentives can help us improve in these areas.

Each of our 3 Administrative State Chairmen (ASC) (Kevin Coleman, Bill Stewart and Bill Venturini)
along with their Minor Conference Coordinators will each focus on one of three essential specialties of
Membership development and they will work with coordinators in each minor conference. We have
expanded State Chairman Nick Santini's role from Hispanic to Multi-Cultural Membership
Development (Hispanic, Filipino, Haitian, Korean, Polish, Chinese & other ethnicities) and he'll work
with the coordinators and vice chairmen assigned in the minor conferences. State Chairman for
Parish Round Tables Sebastian Passanese will work with the Parish Round Tables Auxiliary State
Chairmen in each conference.

Here is a description of each of these positions:

Minor Conference Coordinator Recruitment Team Captain - Organizes and leads one or more
Recruitment teams in the conference, which focus on assisting councils & DDs with conducting
Membership Drives (especially those councils who have not recruited a member in the last year),
Evangelization efforts, attracting younger members (especially under age 35), promote the scheduling
of monthly 1st Degrees in each district, promote the use of Council Brochures. Guided and supported
by Administrative State Chairman Kevin Coleman & local Membership leaders.

Minor Conference Coordinator for New Council Development (NCD), Council Reactivation and
Parish Round Tables - Ensure an active Knights of Columbus presence in every parish and ethic
community. Work with District Deputies to identify opportunities for New Councils and the
Reactivation of suspended or inactive councils. Assist these councils and their District Deputy
throughout the process of the council's development. Promote the formation and active use of Round
Tables. Guided and supported by Administrative State Chairman Bill Stewart & local Membership
leaders.
Minor Conference Coordinator for Member Retention - Guide and assist council GKs, council
retention committee members and DDs in proper and effective member Retention procedures, which
includes personal contact of ALL brothers listed on the Intent to Retain reports. Retention
Coordinators will spot check the personal contact made by the council & District Deputy. Identify
struggling councils that may need Revitalization. Guided and supported by Administrative State
Chairman Bill Venturini & local Membership leaders.

Minor Conference Coordinator Multi-Cultural Membership Development - This is a Major

membership growth opportunity, since this where the church in much of NY is seeing growth in
practicing Catholics!! Familiar with their focus ethnicity and language, but, also encourage
membership growth with all ethnicities. Essential in the NY Arch-Diocese and the Long Island
Dioceses. Based upon their local needs, other conferences have been encouraged to support these
positions as needed. Guided and supported by State Chairman Nick Santini, State Membership
Director Ed Willie & local Membership leaders.

Auxiliary State Chairman Parish Round Tables - Assists and Encourages councils to submit the
Report of the Parish Round Table Coordinator (form 2629) where a council supports more than one
parish or where the council support another ethnic group. Guided and supported by State Chairman
Sebastian Passanese & local Membership leaders including the local NCD, Reactivation & Round
Table Coordinator.

Minor Conference Coordinator All Membership - These coordinators will work on all membership
efforts as needed. They will work with the Administrative State Chairman who is the Major
Conference Coordinator for their major conference, Kevin Coleman for Long Island, Bill Venturini for
Downstate and Bill Stewart for Upstate as well as with the State Membership Director.

Additionally, State Chairman for Awards & Reports, Gary Leonardo will work directly with me to
assure forms are routed properly and effectively. State Coordinator for Statistics Dr Anthony Battista
will work directly with me in the analysis of data collected from the Supreme Council.

Once again, our State Membership Team is excited to have the opportunity to serve you and your
councils as we work together to grow our our order.

MEMBERSHIP&INCENTIVES&
First, our Worthy State Deputy Ken and I are very pleased to announce that the NYS Council's
Membership recognitions are back! As these recognitions did in the past, the Super Star Council
and Council Circle of Honor both require the council to have and use a Council Brochure as well as
Host an Admission (1st) Degree. Instructions on How to Create a Council Brochure will be emailed
shortly. As in the past, the District Circle of Honor requires that the Councils of the District meet a
quota for Admission (1st) Degrees Hosted.

As was announced to our Worthy District Deputies at the NYS Organizational meeting, our Worthy
State Deputy Ken and his administration have identified key Membership goals for our State
Council. To encourage ALL of us to work effectively towards meeting those goals, we are excited to

Personal Contact Guidelines for the Successful Retention of Members
In Charity, we should always find ways to Love our Brother Knights

Each member is a very valuable asset of his council. We should do all we can to keep this Brother
Knight engaged and involved with his council.

If your council has not seen or heard from a brother for a year or so, or if the brother has fallen behind
in the payment of his dues, do we not owe this brother the courtesy to find out if he may need our
help or prayers? This is done through Personal Contact by members of the councils Retention
Committee. Personal Contact means either in person of through a phone call (not just a phone
message or letters). The Retention committee may be made up of the Deputy Grand Knight, Council
Trustees or other friendly brothers who would enjoy reaching out to their brother knights.
If the brothers sponsor or mentor is known, he may be the best to first reach out to the brother.

Each Retention Committee member should have their Councils Brochure on hand (or their
Columbian Award Application form SP-7 or a detailed list of the councils programs and activities) so
they will be prepared to update the brother knight on whats going on lately at the council.

Missing a members current phone number? Go to http://www.peoplefinders.com/Just click the 'Log

In' link in the upper right of the screen, then enter Bob Conte's email address rconte1@si.rr.com and
the password retentionSelect 'People Search' and then enter their last name and the city. You may
then obtain the phone number of a member that the council may have lost contact with.

A Suggested Script for Personal Contact to Retain or Re-Engage a Brother Knight: Please Do Not
start by mentioning any missing dues payments ... Instead, let him know his council is concerned for
him and his family; help him feel appreciated and needed. Try to anticipate and solve any problems
that may bring a member to fall away from active membership.
Let him know that he has been missed by the council
Ask up front if there are any prayer needs in the family (such as illness, loss of work, or death
of a loved one). If so, let him know the council will include them in their prayers and then be
sure to add the intentions to the councils prayer list and advise the GK.
Gather current contact information - email, phone(s), is there a Winter address or are they
moving?
Invite local members (and their families) to a social event or charitable project in the coming
weeks (This event or project should be planned ahead by the GK and Retention Committee)
Ask if transportation to meetings would help and offer it if needed
Speak of the Councils programs and try to Engage the member in his area of interest or
expertise
Mention the unpaid dues and that the council will waive prior years, if hell pay the current
year If he no longer lives nearby and is no longer interested in the council, ask if he would be
interested in transferring to a nearby council and then advise the GK, so the council can help
him to do so. Thank you for your efforts in caring for and retaining our Brother Knights!!

! SPECIAL!OLYMPICS! Jim&McCue&E&Chairman&
!
As we know, our Special Olympics program runs during the entire calendar year, which
consists of from January 1st to December 31st. Last year we raised $94,000 for this
great cause. The Polar Plunges, which happen all around the State, are some of our
biggest fundraisers.
Last Year my own Team on Staten Island raised $10,000, and Staten Island is
planning multiple Teams this year. Listed below are dates and locations of various
events:
Binghamton/Bowman Park Nov. 4th
Rockland County Nov. 4th
St Lawrence Nov.18th
Lake George Nov. 18th
Westchester Nov. 18th
Plattsburgh Nov. 19th
Bronx Zoo Nov. 19th
Staten Island Dec. 3rd
CNY Oneida Shores Dec. 3rd
!
Another way to contribute this year is by celebrating the retirement of the President and CEO of NY
Special Olympics, Neil Johnson. Below you will see information concerning his Retirement
Celebration, ahich will double as a fundraiser for Special Olympics. All proceeds from this event will
go to the Special Olympics Program. These donations can be reported on the Partnership Forms at
the end of the Year.
Lets try to get the State of New York back to over $100,000 again.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WHEEL!CHAIR!MISSION!!!!Jim&McCue&E&Chairman!
This past spring the State took delivery of its second container of Wheel chairs. The Chairs were
distributed all around NY State, to members, VA Hospitals, other Hospitals, multiple Parishes, FDNY,
NYPD, and many other worthwhile organizations. A movement is starting around the State to bring in
more than one container at a time. We are planning on expanding this program to even try and send
one to another country. The State of California Knights of Columbus are sending five containers to
Israel in August. California raises almost a half million dollars a year for Wheel Chairs. Our next step
is to try to get local fund raising started and to get into a few Parishes around the State for Wheel
Chair Sundays. Wheel Chair Sundays are when the Wheel Chair team comes to Parishes and
presents their program to solicit donations on that weekend. This has proven very successful around
the country.

When making donations, forward them to the State Office located at 359 Route 111, Bldg. 1, Suite 2,
Smithtown, NY 11787, and write in the Memo Wheel Chairs.

I can be reached by email: jamesmccue237@gmail.com or by phone at (718) 612-6221.

Coats For Kids Darren Gamma - Chairman

Our target date for Councils to place their Coats for Kids orders through KnightsGear will be October
15, 2017.
Here are some ideas for Council involvement:
Fundraising and collaboration with local community organizations, for example, local Fire
Departments. Community organizations are often looking for ways to help families in need. Coats for
Kids is a great way to do
All Councils will be encouraged to participate by purchasing at least one case of coats, especially if
they have not participated previously, or if it has been some time since a Council last participated.
Appropriate and prudent use of social media (such as Facebook) can encourage participation from
Councils, individual members, supporters of the program, and the business community. Additional
avenues to publicize the program includes parish bulletins, diocesan newspapers, and local
newspapers.
Councils can reach out and encourage other parish organizations to purchase a case of coats
through our program.
Some resources to identify need can include: local schools, parish St. Vincent de Paul Societies, and
in rural areas, local police departments can generally steer towards areas of greatest need.

For questions or additional information, please contact NY State Coats for Kids Chairman Darren
Gamma at dmgamma@aol.com.

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, You
called Your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian
family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through
the example of his life and virtue may we follow Your Son, Jesus Christ, more
closely, fulfilling His commandment of charity and building up His Body, which is
the Church. Let the inspiration of Your servant prompt us to greater confidence in
Your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast.
We humbly ask that you glorify Your servant, Father Michael J. McGivney, on
earth according to the design of Your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the
favor I now present (here make your request), through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Vocations

Heavenly Father, bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous Priests,
Deacons, Brothers, and Sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and
those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that
their lives require.
Form us all in the likeness of your Son, so that in Him, with Him, and through Him,
we may love You more deeply and serve You more faithfully, always and
everywhere. With Mary, we ask You, through Christ our Lord. Amen
