Introduction

The objective of this User Manual to introduce the Oracle Material Requirement planning
Module to the users of Sonakoyo and to train them in using this module for their operations.

This document is prepared keeping in view the requirements of Sonakoyo. For further and
full information on MRP module, reference may be made to the MRP User Guides, released
by Oracle Corporation.

Oracle Material Requirement Planning is one of the modules in the Manufacturing Suite. This
module is intended to define forecasts, define master demand schedules, and material
requirement plans. This module is tightly integrated with Inventory, Purchasing, Order
Management, Bills of Material, Costing, and Work in Process.

2
Forecast Sets:

Forecasts Sets are defined to hold a group of forecasts. It is mandatory to define

at least one forecast sets and then define forecasts for each of the forecast sets. Once the forecasts
are defined, the demand can be defined for each of the forecasts, by giving the items and the quantity
details.

Master Demand Schedule (MDS)

An MDS is created to create the demand before

launching the Manufacturing Requirement Plan. The created MDS is assigned to the MRP and MRP
uses this demand to make its suggestions for planned orders.

 Submit Load/Copy/Merge MDS request

After the successful completion of the request, the demand defined in all the forecast sets listed in the
source list will be copied as Demand in the destination Master Demand Schedule.

MPS- Master Production Schedule
The MPS is a statement of supply required to meet the demand for the items contained in the
MDS. The master production schedule defines the anticipated build schedule for critical items. An
effective master production schedule provides the basis for order promising and links the aggregate
production plan to manufacturing by specific items, dates, and quantities. You can use the MPS to

10
level or smooth production so that you effectively utilize capacity to drive the material
requirements plan.

For a master production schedule, the schedule date for discrete items and the start
and
end dates for repetitive items must be valid workdays.

Once the Request is submitted many concurrent requests are run and after all these requests
are completed successfully, MPS will make its suggestions for the manufacture of finished
goods based on the demand specified in MDS.

MPS WORKBENCH

The MPS workbench can be used by the material planner to

look at the suggestions made by the MPS plan and implement the recommendations as and
when required. MPS plan makes suggestions for the manufacturing of finished goods. It also
suggests the release dates of the suggested orders based on the lead times defined for the
manufacturing times for the finished goods.

The suggestions made by the MPS plan can be directly released from the MPs workbench. On
release of the planned order for a make item, a discrete job is created and imported into the
Work in Process module.

If the selected Item is Finished good then the MPS will suggest the required jobs to
fulfill the demand
If the Jobs are already created then the system will suggest the user to reschedule it
based on the demand dates
Suggested Jobs can be released directly and will be imported to WIP

MRP Material Requirement Planning

Material Requirement plans are defined to

consider the demand of an organization and make suggestions to buy components and build
finished goods based on the shortages. The MRP plan considers the demand from the MDS
and checks if all the components for manufacturing the finished goods are available within the
organization. If not, it will make suggestions for the shortages. It will also consider the lead
times and minimum order quantities before making suggestions. For the finished goods it will
suggest discrete jobs, based on the on hand availability.

Based on the suggestions, purchase requisitions for buy items and discrete jobs for make
items can be directly released from the MRP workbench. If the demand is changed or
cancelled MRP will make new suggestions accordingly, next time it is launched.

MRP WORKBENCH

The MRP workbench can be used by the material planner to

look at the suggestions made by the MRP plan and implement the recommendations as and
when required. MRP plan makes suggestions for the purchase of buy items and the
manufacturing of finished goods. It also suggests the release dates of the suggested orders
based on the lead times defined for the buy items and manufacturing times for the finished
goods.

The suggestions made by the MRP plan can be directly released from the MRP workbench. On
release of the planned order for a buy item an approved Purchase Requisition is automatically
created and imported to Purchasing module. The requisition can then be auto-created into a
Purchase Order and the items can be received into the organization. For make items after the
release of the planned from the workbench, a discrete job is created and imported into the
Work in Process module.
