Student Visa
If you wish to study at a university in Germany you are required to obtain a residence permit. This residence permit must be
issued before you enter the country. Please note that you cannot convert a tourist visa into a student visa.
Processing takes 5 to 6 weeks upon submission of complete documents. It is recommended that at no time a flight
ticket should be purchased until the visa has been granted.
We ask that no status request is made if the required 5 weeks processing period has not yet passed. The applicant will
automatically, on completion of the processing, receive a prompt notification. You may however request a status update if you
have not received any information 5 weeks after submission of complete documents.
It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that his/her application is submitted on time. Bad planning on the applicant's side
does not automatically warrant exceptional handling from our side.
The fee for the processing of the visa application of an adult is the equivalent of 60.00 and has to be paid in
SGD.
All documents must be submitted in original as well as 2 copies. Copies will not be made by Embassy staff.

Passport with a validity of at least 3 months longer than the intended stay, at least 2 free pages and not older
than 10 years. 2 copies of photo page and pages with visas, stamps etc. required!
Employment pass, dependant's pass, student pass or blue IC with re-entry permit. Original + 2 copies.

2 recent passport photographs according to biometric specifications

Letter of acceptance by a German university + 1 copy

Recognized entitlement to university admission (usually a high school diploma or graduation examination
certificate)

Proof of German language knowledge (if lectures will be held in English language a confirmation from the
university on this fact)
Curriculum vitae + 1 copy

Evidence of previous academic performance, Original + 2 copies

Proof of finance with a minimum of Euro 670,-- per month by:


- A blocked account at a German bank showing a minimum amount according to the duration of your intended
stay (withdrawal limit of 670,-- per month). NOTE: You have to open the blocked account (Sperrkonto) directly
with the bank. You can choose the bank. One possibility is to contact db.student@db.com. They will give you
further information how to proceed + 1 copy, or
- Proof of scholarship by a German instution +1 copy or
- A formal letter of obligation, according to paragraph 66,68 of the Aliens Act, from a resident of Germany and
for the duration of the applicant's stay in Germany, explicitly mentioning the purpose of Studium. Original +
2 copies.
Health insurance (travel health insurance) valid at least for the first 3 months of stay. Original + 2 copies.

Please note: Each visa application is reviewed individually. The submission of the above mentioned documents does not
guarantee the issue of a visa (in time). Submission of an incomplete set of documentation will lead to a refusal of your visa
application. Once a visa has been issued, the purpose of the trip may not be altered. There is no urgent/express visa!
