MAINTENANCE AND CONSERVATION OF THE TEMPORARY

GROUNDING AND SHORT-CIRCUITING EQUIPMENT

1) Certain precautions must be taken with the temporary grounding equipment to keep it always in good order
and ready for use. A proper conservation may result not only in a long-term life equipment, but also in
guaranteed safety, inspiring confidence in your field personnel.
2) The grounding cable must be annually subject to a test of conductive continuity, including connectors and
clamps, in order to check whether the ohm-resistance is within the maximum permissible values.
3) Prior to using the equipment, you must check if there are broken wires or physical damages on the cable,
mainly closer to the connectors.
4) The connection between clamps and cables must be rigid and clean. Clean the contact areas frequently.
5) It is important to clean the insulating sticks and check if there are fissures or other damages, besides
performing periodic insulation test.
6) The Temporary Grounding and Short-circuiting equipment must be handled, stored and transported as
carefully as for hot line tools. Cables and clamps must be put on a canvas mat on the ground, prior to its
connection to the system to be grounded, in order to prevent it from suffering the effects due to its contact
directly with the ground.
7) Every Temporary Grounding and Short-circuiting equipment that has been subject to a short-circuit current,
must not be used again for grounding purposes.
