ABOUT THE FORT

The Fort is an independent, artist-run initiative, established to help protect and promote Brisbane’s vibrant arts
culture. The Fort, within the iconic Bell Bros. Building, Fortitude Valley, aims to grow many artistic endeavours
through collaboration and drawing on collective resources, skills and networks. Launched in April 2009, The Fort
is now a massive collaborative effort aimed at supporting the entire process of creative production – from
conception through creation, display, performance, distribution and review. The Fort currently comprises music
recording and rehearsal studios, music retail, photography and film studios, artist studios, art galleries, project
offices, a fashion design space, a large function and performance space and the provision for much more!

Non-profit group The Fort Arts Hub Ltd. was established in 2008 by The Fort visionaries. The role of the not-for-
profit organisation is to carry out and maintain The Fort vision (a 5-year plan), manage The Fort and other
projects and activities within and outside of the centre, and maintain and build important business and
community-based partnerships necessary for the success of the project. The organisation also provides a
platform for communication and exchange between members, colleagues and the broader Brisbane community.
In its first year of operation The Fort Arts Hub Ltd. has facilitated, through The Fort, over 80 (all ages and 18+)
live music performances, as well as nearly 30 successful, cutting-edge art exhibitions - helping to promote and
establish over 100 exceptional contemporary local, interstate and international artists. More at thefort.org.au.

PURPOSE - SUPPORT THE FORT

This massive event will be the second major fundraising extravaganza for the non-profit group who, following
the success of their memorable launch in April last year - attracting over 600 supporters - aim to raise much
needed funds for The Fort’s highly regarded, but long-struggling art gallery and artist studios, as well as
providing an important injection into other creative spaces, facilities, and services within The Fort complex.

“Government has tended to overlook the less glamorous, raw culture of Brisbane which many know encourages
great artistic endeavour. Artists and art lovers understand this, and it’s these people that support The Fort and
provide for its existence. If we are to see cultural innovation thrive in this city, and keep up with other
contemporary world cities, then places like The Fort need to survive and thrive. This event is the perfect
opportunity to support and connect with Brisbane’s friendly, dynamic inner-city arts community.” Says Director
of The Fort Arts Hub Ltd., Kelly Timmons.
