Haworth Power Solutions

History
Haworth revolutionized the office furniture industry in 1972 with the introduction of the first
panel based power system, a single circuit solution. In 1976, we launched TriCircuit , a 3
Circuit, Shared Neutral power system. Then, in 1986, we changed the landscape of panel based
power systems with the introduction of the Power Base , a 3 Circuit, Separate Neutral electrical
system. But we did not stop there. In 1995, we began to offer our customers the first 6 Circuit
electrical system, with the New Power Base .

Power Base
The Power Base electrical system is the best furniture electrical distribution system available.
It was the first system to offer separate, dedicated neutrals, which are proven to be the best
defense against harmonics. The real benefit is having separate neutrals for each hot conductor.
With Power Bare , you get up to six separate circuits that completely prevent neutral conductor
overloading and overheating caused by continuous distortion of harmonic currents. There are
several key benefits to consider when evaluating electrical systems, they are as follows:

Feature Benefit
Safety The absence of neutral failure q Separate neutrals
caused by harmonics. (Worst case q Keyed to avoid misapplication
scenarios include electrical distribution q First make last break of ground connection
system failures that may lead to fire.) q Passive component clips
q Meets recommended CBEMA practice
q Exceeds UL requirements
Flexibility The ability to use the fewest q Programmable receptacle
power distribution components for the q Non-handed
most applications q UL listed for multiple power sources
q 3-and 6-circuit modules integrate completely
Quality Power Clean Powerfree q Separate neutrals
from electrical noise and voltage q Complete access to isolated ground by all circuits
variation generated by operating q UL listed for multiple power sources
equipment. (Computers and peripheral
equipment operate most reliably with
clean power.)
Capacity The number of circuits q Up to 6-circuits
available in a power distribution system. q Up to 120 amps of power
(The total number of amps required by q Fewer in-feed module sites required
all of the equipment in a furniture
installation dictates the number of
circuits required.)
Compatibility The ability of a power q Separate neutral for each circuit provides the
distribution system s wiring to interface highest level of compatibility
with the building s wiring. q All circuits can access the isolated ground
q Quantity of circuits provides flexibility
q Works with every building s wiring configuration

Haworth Data Solution .DataThing

DataThing
DataThing lets you move, add or change furniture, people
and equipment without ever re-cabling again. Developed by
Haworth and Krone, DataThing segments cabling between
furniture panels, link desks, beams and other furniture
components. The result is a simple solution that unties your
people as well as your furniture and delivers the high
performance IS/IT managers demand from their communications
network. With scalable bundles of multiple circuits, DataThing
also offers maximum flexibility for personalizing voice and data
technology needs.

3 Parts
DataThing is made up of three simple parts: (1) in-feed assembly, (2) communication
distribution assembly (CDA) and (3) outlet tap assembly. What Haworth s Power Base does for
electrical power, DataThing now does for voice and data.

In-Feed Assembly Similar to power in-feeds, the in-feed assemblies connect the building
cabling to the cabling in the furniture. DataThing in-feed assembly termination blocks can be
mounted on panels, located in adjacent building structures, placed in the communications closet,
or in some cased hidden in the furniture panels.

Communication distribution assembly (CDA) Analogous to power distribution assemblies, the

communication distribution assembly or CDA, is the backbone of DataThing . CDA s are
available in 10 different lengths to match the standard widths of Haworth furniture components.
Each CDA contains six 4-pair, high-performance voice and data circuits. And because they move
with your furniture, CDA s help you move, add or change your furniture faster, easier, and more
cost effectively than any other cabling systems.

Outlet tap assembly Similar to

programmable receptacles, the
outlet tap assembly plugs into the
CDA to provide the voice and data
outlets for your equipment. With
their variable circuit selection, you
can move, add or change people
and their equipment simply by
untapping from one location on a
CDA and tapping into another. This
plug and playability lest you
customize the number of circuits
accessed within any office or
cluster, helping you meet your
employeesvaried and changing
equipment needs.

DataThing was designed and developed to fit exclusively in Haworth furniture. It can be
installed or retrofitted in Causeway , Premise Stackable, and Race. DataThing may also
work in Places, Premise

Performance
DataThing exceed TIA/EIA Category 5 UTP standards for electrical performance and the more
stringent Anixter Levels Channel 6 requirements. The Anixter Levels program measures and
qualifies the performance of the entire circuit path from the hub to the computer. DataThing
supports networking technologies.

The following performance graphs show that DataThing with 18 CDAs (plus connections at the
user and closet locations) exceeds TIA/EIA 568A Category 5 and Anixter Level 6 performance
requirements.

The DataThing Alliance

DataThing is a joint venture between Haworth,
KRONE and Anixter. KRONE, the co-inventor of
DataThing , holds over 2000 patents in the voice
and data communications industry. KRONE is the
world s leading manufacturer of innovative IDC wire
connection technology. KRONE will certify DataThing
installers who can specify, install, test and certify the
entire DataThing system. Anixter is the world s largest
distributor of cabling system infrastructure and
networking solutions. Anixter measures and qualifies
the performance of DataThing through their Levels Program.
Anixter will distribute and support DataThing through their
180 locations worldwide and 24-hour access.

Warranty
DataThing has a 20-year, end-to-end warranty from KRONE.
