TRENCHLESS TECHNOLOGIES

O-1 TUNNELING

O-1.1 General

All works to be done in accordance with OPSS 415 and OPSS 404 - Pipeline and Utility
Installation by Tunneling and requirements of Ministry of Labour. Notify all appropriate
authorities (railway, gas, MTO, etc.) and schedule work accordingly.

The Consulting Engineer is to ensure the following general requirements for pipeline and utility
installation by tunneling are adhered, per OPSS 415 and requirements of Ministry of Labour:

Contractor shall supply the Consulting Engineer and City with detail drawings showing
excavation, shaft, bracing, shoring and full description of proposed tunnel construction
procedure. Shaft drawings and shoring shall be certified by a professional engineer.

Prior to commencing with works, the Consultant Engineer is to coordinate the proposed
construction shaft locations with the Contractor and review with the Geotechnical
Consultant and City.

The location of tunnels shall be established from the lines, elevations, as outlined in the
City approved engineering design.

All reference points necessary to construct the tunnel and appurtenances shall be laid
out.

The Contractor shall provide the Consultant Engineer and City Inspectors with the
assistance and access necessary to check the layout of the tunnel and associated
appurtenances.

Shafts shall be maintained in a drained condition.

A minimum 2.4m high secure fence shall be installed around the perimeter of the
construction shaft area with gates and truck entrances. The fence shall be removed on
completion of the work.

O-2 JACK AND BORING

O-2.1 General

All works to be done in accordance with OPSS 416 and OPSS 404 - Pipeline and Utility
Installation by Jacking and Boring and requirements of Ministry of Labour.

The Consulting Engineer is to ensure the following general requirements for pipeline and utility
installation by jacking and boring are adhered, per OPSS 416:

Installation procedure to be used shall be reviewed with the Consultant Engineer prior
to commencing with the work and shall be subject to the following limitations:
a) Only smooth walled steel or concrete pipe shall be used
b) Hydraulically operated jacks of adequate number and capacity shall be provided to
ensure smooth and uniform advancement without over-stressing of the pipe
c) A jacking head or collar shall be provided to transfer and distribute jacking pressure
uniformly over the entire end bearing area of the pipe. In the case of concrete pipe,
the jacking head shall be suitably padded
d) The jacking pipe shall be fully supported in the jacking pit at the specified line and
grade

Prior to commencing with works, the Consultant Engineer is to coordinate the proposed
construction shaft locations with the Contractor and review with the Geotechnical
Consultant and City

Shafts shall be maintained in a drained condition

A minimum 2.4m high secure fence shall be installed around the perimeter of the
construction shaft area with gates and truck entrances. The fence shall be removed on
completion of the work

Pipe shall be installed to the line and grade as outlined in the City approved engineering
design

Butt welding of pipe joints shall be according to AWWA C206, when steel pipe is used

The space between the jacking pipe and the wall of excavation shall be kept filled with
bentonite slurry

The Contractor shall provide the Consultant Engineer with the assistance and
access/tracking necessary to check the layout of the pipe within the tunnel and
associated appurtenances

O-3 HORIZONTAL DIRECTIONAL DRILLING

O-3.1 General

All works to be done in accordance with OPSS 450 - Pipeline and Utility Installation in Soil by
Horizontal Directional Drilling and Ministry of Labour requirement/approval.

The Consulting Engineer is to ensure the following general requirements for pipeline and utility
installation by directional drilling are adhered, per OPSS 450:

Installation procedure to be used shall be reviewed with the Consultant Engineer prior
to commencing with the work; the drilling rig shall:

a) consist of a leak free hydraulically powered boring system to rotate, push, and pull
hollow drill pipe into the ground at a variable angle while delivering a pressurized
fluid mixture to a guidable drill head

b) contain a guidance system to accurately guide boring operations

c) be anchored to the ground to withstand the rotating, pushing, and pulling forces
required to complete the product installation, and
d) be grounded during all operations unless otherwise specified by the drilling rig
manufacturer

The drill head shall be steerable by changing its rotation, be equipped with the
necessary cutting surfaces and drilling fluid jets, and be of the type for the anticipated
soil conditions.

The delivery system shall have sufficient flow capacity to ensure that all slurry volumes
are adequate for the length and diameter of the final bore and the anticipated soil
conditions. Connections between the delivery pump and drill pipe shall be leak-free.

Pipe shall be installed to the horizontal and vertical alignment grade as outlined in the
City approved engineering design.

The Contractor shall provide the Consultant Engineer with the assistance and
access/tracking necessary to check the layout of the pipe within the tunnel and
associated appurtenances.

A drill fluid response and disposal plan is to be provided to the Consulting Engineer and
City for review prior to construction.

A contingency plan shall be reviewed and put in place prior to construction to ensure
frac-outs can be contained and effectively controlled.

All horizontal/direction drill sewer (storm & sanitary) installations shall be video inspected
immediately following installation. All works not installed to the design vertical grade and
horizontal alignment shall be determined deficient and shall be repaired or replaced to the City
satisfaction immediately. There shall be no tolerance allowed for improperly laid sewers. No
ponding of sewage within the sewer (dips in the pipe) shall be allowed.
