SCHOOL DISASTER PREPAREDNESS SUMMIT

We cannot stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with knowledge: so many lives
wouldnt have to be lost if there was enough disaster preparedness Petra Nemcova

Disaster can strike anytime, unaware on this predicament would cost loss of properties,
injuries and lives. Indeed as the quote says, knowledge is our only arm to mitigate the harm
and hasten the recovery. The Bureau of Fire Protection-Macabebe Fire Station recognizes
knowledge enhancement as the most critical in preparing the community in managing disasters
and calamities. Nurturing the minds of the people on the awareness of safety precautions
would suffice the community to the prompt and proper management of the said predicament.

On the 31st of July 2017, this unit in partnership the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction
Management Council conducted Disaster Preparedness Summit among the leaders on school
disaster management of this municipality. The BFP and MDRMMC gave emphasis on the safety
of the young members of the community and recognized the need of orientation on the proper
management of schools during disasters.

The summit started with the basic lecture on the different kinds of disasters that has a
high probability to be encountered within the municipality. The team (BFP & MDRMMC)
underscored the timeliest topic on disaster, Earthquake. Collaborated with the recent
information received during the Provincial Disaster Summit, the team updated the school
disaster leaders on how self-sufficiency during the first 24 hours of wide-scale disaster is vital in
surviving earthquake.

Open discussion was made after the lecture and different concerns was raised. Before
ending the summit, the team updated the capability profile on disaster response of the four (4)
clusters made and had chosen leader from each cluster.

The cluster leader would as the focal point person during the disaster preparation and
response.
