RCB-6.1TYPEOF GASKETS
Gasketsshallbe selectedwhichhavea continuous with no radialleakpaths.Thisshallnot
periphery
excludegasketsmadecontinuousby weldingor othermethAdswhich producea homogeneous
bond.

Metaljacketedor solidmetalgasketsshallbe usedfor internalfloatingheadjoints,all jointsfor
pressuresof -3Q0psi (2068kPa)and over,andfor all jointsin contactwith hyilrocarbons.Other
gasketmaterialsmaybe specifiedby agreementbehireenpurchaserand manufacturer to meet
specialserviceconditionsand flangedesign. Whentwo gisketed jointsare compressedby the
samebolting,provisionsshallbe madeso that both gask-ets seal,6ut neithergasketis crushedat the
requiredbolt load.
CB-6.2GASKETMATERIALS
For designpressuresof 300 psi (2068kPa)and lower,compositiongasketsmay be usedfor external
jo_ints,
unlesstemperatureor corrosivenatureof containedfluid indicatesotherwise.Metaljacketed,
filledor solid metalgasketsshallbe usedfor all jointsfor designpressuresgreaterthan 30Opsi(2068
kPa)and for internalffoatingheadjoints. Othergasketmateri-als'may be splcified by agreemeni
betweenpurchaserand manufact[rerto meetspecialserviceconditionsahd flangeiJes-ign. When
two gasketediointsare compressedby the samebolting,provisionsshallbe madeso that both
gasketsseal,but neithergasketis crushedat the requiredbolt load.

The minimumwidth of peripheralringgasketsfor externaljoints shallbe 3/8" (9.5mm)for
shellsizesthrough23 inches(58amm)nominaldiameterand 1/2" (12.7mm)for all larger
shellsizes.
