Describe how you can develop the skills needed to become an effective manager in your current
station in the future?
To become an effective manager in my current station in the future, it is important to
prepare myself for a shift in mindset and priorities. I should have the ability to measure and assess
the training needs of my staff. I should be responsible in organizing the departments, implementing
processes and guiding and outlining what I need to do. I should set goals that my subordinates will
strive for. I should manage my time and prioritize work to meet deadlines. I should be approachable,
compassionate and have good communicating skills to listen to and for keeping everybody
informed. I have to develop my people skills and actually enjoy relating to people. Also, I should
learn to delegate work where necessary to share responsibility and accountability. I should
recognize the achievements of my subordinates because every individual is hungry for appreciation.
I need to be an expert in my field and be able to remain calm and focused when I encounter
problems relating to my work while thinking and coming up with solutions. Lastly, I should be open
to learning new things because learning is a continuous process.
