How to write a speech/talk.

Always remember:
Follow the guidelines in the above and below to write a speech:
1. Begin your speech by greeting your audience.
2. Greet your audience in order of importance:
(a) Principle, (b) Teachers and (c) Students
Example: Good morning to Madam Imelda, the principle, all the teachers and fellow students.
3. Mention the topic of your speech.
Example: Today, I would like to give a speech on (title of your speech).
4. Use the format of a speech.
5. Write your composition like a speech. Please use Ladies and gentlemen or Members of the floor
before each point.
6. Add the points that you have listed down.
7. Arrange your points in your outline.
8. Write your composition based on the outline.

EXERCISE
WRITING A SPEECH/TALK.
You should spend 30 minutes on this question.

As the best student in your school, you have been asked to give a speech on tips to study well and score in
exams at the school assembly.

Study tips:
-have a timetable
-go over past years questions
-balance time between study and recreation
-sleep well

When writing out your speech:

-you may use the notes given
-suggest one other study method
-add any other relevant information
-write not less than 150 words

Writing Outline

Introduction: opening address/greetings - greet principal, teachers and students introduce your topic of
speech
Main Body: Share study tips to score in exams.

Paragraph 1: systematic timetable - complete revision - go over past years questions - familiarise with
format
Paragraph 2: - do not cram - prepare for exam far ahead - sleep well on night before exam - help to focus
Paragraph 3: during exam - plan out answers - do not leave important points

Conclusion: not difficult to prepare for exams - wish the audience all the best - thank the audience
