GettingStarted

Attheonsetofthegame,youwillfindyourselfonaboat,thoughatthispointyourcharacterisalreadywithinwhatiscalledaninstancedarea,
meaningitwillnotbeoccupiedbyanyotherplayers.

*Instancedareas,orinstances,areareasinwhichonlyplayersdirectlyrelatedtoorinvolvedinwhathappenswithinmayenter.Theinitialstages
ofgameplayintheAlphaTestwilltakeplaceininstancedareaswhichonlysingleplayersmayoccupy.
Instanceswillonlybeusedforspecialevents,suchasthegamesopeningsequence.Forthemostpart,gameplaywilltakeplacewithinpublicareas
occupiedbyanyofanumberofplayers.

Asyouprogressthroughtheopeningevent,theshipwilleventuallymakeport.Afterarriving,speaktotheNPCHob,whowillbelocateddirectly
aheadofyou.Atcertainpointsinthegame,Hobwillpresentyouwithalistofoptionsinaccordancewithyourprogress.Fornow,selecttheoption
presentedtocontinuethroughthecurrentevent.

AfterspeakingwithNPCHobandproceedingtothelocationtowhichyouhavebeendirected,therewillbeanotherNPCnamedBaderonwhowill
presentyouwithanothersetofoptions.AfterspeakingtoBaderon,youwillautomaticallybetransportedfromtoapublicarea.

Inpublicareasyouwillcomeacrossmanyotherplayers.Asfellowadventurers,itisuptoyoutomakethemostofyourtimeinEorzeatogether!

1.ActionBar
ThisbardisplaysthevariouscommandsavailableforuseinrelationtothePCorNPCyouarecurrentlytargeting.

2.ActionGauge
Thisgaugetellshowmuchtimeisleftbeforethenextactionmaybeexecuted.Thoughthereareafewexceptions,forthemostpartallattacks,
abilities,weaponskills,andspellsrequirethattheactiongaugebefull.

Forcertainclasses,asecondaryactiongaugewillappearwhenashieldisequippedintheoffhand.Allshieldrelatedcommandswillmakeuseofthis
gauge.

Theactiongaugesofthemainhandandoffhandareentirelyindependentofoneanother.Shouldacharacterhaveashieldequippedintheiroff
hand,twoactiongaugeswillbedisplayedsimultaneously.

3.EffectGauge
Theeffectgaugecomestolifeoncetheactiongaugehascompletelyfilled.Whenacommandisexecuted,thestateoftheeffectgaugewill
determinecertainbonusestofactorssuchasaccuracy,power,orpotency.Thesebonusesapplytoallactions,bothphysicalandmagical.

PassiveModeandActiveMode
PassiveModeisthedesignationgiventothestateinwhichaplayersarmortoolisnotdrawn.Inthismode,hitpointsregenerateautomatically.
ActiveModereferstothestateinwhichaplayersarmortoolisdrawn.Inthismode,variousbattlecommandsareavailable,butmovementspeed
isreducedincomparisontopassivemode.

ArmsandTools
ThereareavastarrayofarmsandtoolsinFINALFANTASYXIVwhichallowplayerstoassumetheroleofanyofanumberofclasses.However,the
followingconditionsshouldbekeptinmindwhenchangingequipment.
EquippingArmsPlayersmustbeinpassivemodeandnotengagedwithanenemy.
EquippingToolsPlayersmustbeinpassivemode.

DuringtheAlphaTestphase,therewillbeatotalofninetypesofarmsandtoolsavailable(swords,handtohandweapons,axes,polearms,bows,
conjurerarms,thaumaturgearms,hammers,andpickaxes).Playerscanchangetheirclasssimplybyvirtueofchangingthearmortooltheyhave
equippedintheirhand.

TheFlowofBattle
1.Readyanarmortool,changingfrompassivemodetoactivemode.

2.Targetanenemy.

3.Selectacommandfromtheactionbar,andmakeuseoftheactionandeffectgaugestoexecuteiteffectively.

4.Strategizewithotherpartymembers,decidinguponanappropriateBattleRegimen*.

5.Gainvictoryinbattletoberewardedwithexperienceandskillpoints.

6.Obtainanddistributeanylootdroppedbytheenemy.

BattleRegimen
BattleRegimensarecombattacticswhichpartymembersmayemployagainstasingleenemy.Bycoordinatingandexecutingbattlecommandsina
preciseorder,playersmaycausecertainadditionalbeneficialeffectstooccur.

ABattleRegimenbeginswiththestackingofbattlecommands.AllpartymemberswhowishtotakepartintheBattleRegimenmuststacktheir
actionsinthecorrectorderagainstthedesiredtarget.OneofthememberstheninitiatestheBattleRegimen,andthestackedactionswillbe
executedautomatically.

Step1:ConsultwithotherpartymemberstodeterminethebestBattleRegimentouseagainstaspecifictarget.Thebattlecommandsandthe
orderinwhichtheyaretobeexecutedshouldallbedecided.

Step2:WaituntilyourpositioninthequeuecomesaroundtoswitchtoBattleRegimenmodeandselectthebattlecommandyouwishtostack.

Step3:Afterallparticipatingpartymembershavestackedtheirbattlecommands,oneofthepartymembersselectstoinitiatetheBattleRegimen.

Step4:OncetheBattleRegimenisinitiated,thestackedbattlecommandswillallbeexecutedautomatically,chainingtogethertocreateadditional
effects.

PleasenotethatfactorssuchasdistancefromtheenemymaypreventstackedbattlecommandsfrombeingexecutedoncetheBattleRegimenis
initiated.Inthesecases,theBattleRegimenwillnotend,butwillinsteadproceedontothenextcommandinthequeue.

EnemyToughness
Anenemysdegreeofdifficultyisrepresentedbythecolorofthecirclelocatedintheextremeleftportionoftheunitframe.Thisdisplaytakesinto
accountwhethertheplayerissolooramemberofaparty.

InFINALFANTASYXIV,acharactersprogressismeasuredintwoways.Physicallevelsrepresentonesactualphysicaldevelopment,whileskillranks
measurehowadeptoneiswithvariousarmsandtools.

PhysicalLevels
Charactersgainphysicallevelsbyaccumulatingacertainamountofexperiencepoints.(DuringtheAlphaTestphase,experiencepointswillbe
obtainableonlybyachievingvictoryinbattle.)SkillRanksSkillranksaregainedbyaccumulatingskillpointsfromvariousendeavors,suchas
combatorcrafting.Asacharactersskillrankincreases,theywilllearnnewactions,suchasabilitiesandweaponskills.

*Physicallevelandskillrankcapswillbesetat20fortheAlphaTestPhase.


SettingActionsforUse
Actionsthathavebeenacquiredbyacharactercanbesettotheactionbarforuse.DuringtheAlphaTestphase,themaximumnumberofactions
availableatanygiventimewillbelimitedto20.

Barringafewclassspecificexceptions,actionswillbeavailableforuseevenwhenusingaclassdifferentfromtheoneonwhichtheactionlearned.
However,thepowerandefficacyofeachactionisdeterminedbyitsaffinitywiththecharactersactiveskill.


TheSpoilsofWar
Anyitemsreceivedafterabattlewillbeplacedinaplayerslootlist.Duringpartyplay,itemsaredistributedrandomlytothelistsofeachmember.

Afteracertainperiodoftime,itemsonalootlistwillbeautomaticallymovedtoaplayersinventory.Shouldtheplayersinventorybefull,theitems
willbelost.

Itemsonalootlistarenotconsideredinaplayerspossessionuntiltheyareaddedtohis/herinventory.Untilthen,anyitems,includingthosewhich
arerare(untradeable)andunique(playerscanpossessnomorethanone),canbetransferredtoanotherpartymemberslist.

*Itemsreceivedwhilemining/quarryingwillalsobeaddedtothelootlistbeforebeingmovedtoaplayersinventory.

KO'd
IfacharactersHPisreducedto0,he/shewillbeknockedoutandnolongerabletomoveoract.Acharactercanberevivedbyselecting
Returnfromthemainmenuandchoosingadestinationfromthelistedaetherytecampsoraetherialgates.

*IfacharacterisKOdwhileparticipatinginalevequest,he/shewillbeteleportedbacktothecorrespondingaetheryte.

RiftsalongthesurfaceofHydaelyncancauseleaksfromwhichtheplanetslifeblood,aether,canescape.Byharnessingthepowerfrom
concentrateddepositsknownasaetheryte,theresidentsofEorzeahaveseenamarkedimprovementineverydaylife.Belowisalistofthethree
mostcommontypesofaetheryte,andtheirbenefits.

AetheryteCrystals
Locatedintownsandcamps,thesegiantcrystallineobjectsaremostoftenusedasthestartingplacesoflevequests,duetotheiraccessibility.
Uponapproachinganaetherytecrystal,anAetheryteoptionwillappear.Selectingthiswillautomaticallydofourthings:
1.RestoreallHPandMP.
2.Settheaetheryteasyourhomepoint(towhereyouwillreturnwhenwarping).
3.Registerthelocationtoyourteleportlist(firstvisitonly),therebyallowingyoutoteleporttothataetherytewheneveryouchoose.
4.Giveyoutheoptiontobeginanylevequestsinyourpossessionoriginatingfromthatlocation.

AetherialGates
AetherialgatesarepermanentdischargesofaetherlocatedinvariousplacesaroundEorzea.Whilenotasconcentratedasaetherytecrystals,the
gatescanstillbeusedtoinstantlyrestoreHPandMP,andsetyourhomepoint.

AetherialNodes
Aetherialnodesaretemporaryphenomenawhichusuallyappearonlyaftercompletingalevequest.Theycanbeusedtoteleportinstantlybackto
theaetherytecrystalatwhichaplayerbeganthatquest.Onlyplayerswhotookpartinthelevequestcanaccessthenodes,whichwillfadeifnot
usedpromptly.


<Return>
PlayerscanreturntotheirpreviouslysethomepointsatanytimebyselectingtheReturnoptionfromthemainmenu.However,ifaplayeris
participatinginalevequest,selectingthisoptionatthattimewillresultinteleportationbacktotheaetherytecrystaloraetherialgateusedto
activatethequest.TheReturncommandcanalsobeusedwhileKOdtoreviveyourcharacter.

<Teleport>
ByselectingTeleportfromthemainmenu,aplayercanteleporttheirentirepartytoanyaetherytecrystallocationtheyhavealreadyvisited.When
onepartymemberusestheTeleportoption,aconfirmationbuttonwillbesenttoallothermembers,allowingthemtodecidewhetherornotthey
alsowishtobeteleported.

*Pleasenote,boththeReturnandTeleportoptionscanonlybeusedwheninpassivemode.

TologoutofFINALFANTASYXIVandexitthegame,selectLogoutfromthemainmenu.Thelogoutprocessrequires30secondstocompleteand
canbecancelledatanytimebyinputtinganothercommand.

FormingaParty
Toformaparty,simplytargetandselecttheplayerthatyouwishtoinvite,andthenselecttheInviteoptionthatappears.Ifyourinvitationis
accepted,thepartywillbeformedautomatically,withthepersonwhosenttheinitialinvitationbecomingthepartyleader.Theleaderistheonly
memberofthepartywhocaninviteadditionalmembers.

Waitingmeansthataplayersimplystandsbyandwaitsforthesynthesistoperhapsstabilizeortakeaturnforthebetter.Observingtoexcess,
however,willresultinadeclineindurability.

UsingAbilitiesDuringSynthesis
Inadditiontothebasiccommandsoutlinedabove,therearealsoanumberofabilitieswhichcanonlybeusedduringsynthesis.Thesearelearnedby
charactersastheircraftingskillincreases.

Thereare,however,someimportantdifferences.First,synthesisabilitiescannotbeusedtwiceinsuccession,meaningthatthemostfrequently
theymaybeexecutediseveryothercommand.Second,therearenoabilitycostsforusingsynthesisabilities,suchasMPorTPconsumption,and
norecasttimers.Theprobabilityofsuchabilitiesbecomingavailableforuseduringsynthesisinsteaddependsuponfactorssuchasskillrankand
playerattributes.

*IntheAlphaTest,theabilitieswithwhichaplayerbeginsthegamecannotberemovedfromtheactionbar.

DifferencesAmongTools
ToolsemployedbytheDisciplesoftheHandaresplitintotwocategories:primarytools(mainhand)andsecondarytools(offhand).Whenbeginning
asynthesis,playersmustchoosethetoolwithwhichtheywishtocraft.Thoughthesynthesismaybeconductedwitheither,theresultsmaydiffer
basedonthenatureoftherecipeorpatternbeingfollowed.

*FortheAlphaTest,theonlydifferencestakenintoaccountwillbebetweenitemattributes.

Guildleves
Guildlevesarespecialpassesthatallowtheirbearerstoparticipateinaplethoraofdifferenttasksknownaslevequests.Theyareissuedbythe
AdventurersGuildineachcitystate,andcanbeobtainedattheDrowningWenchinLimsaLominsa.

Ingeneral,therearetwodifferenttypesofguildleves:regionalandlocal.Regionallevequestsmostofteninvolvetasksthattakeplaceoutsidethe
protectivewallsofthecitystates,suchasfellingfearsomebeastsorlocatingmineralveins.Locallevequests,ontheotherhand,usuallyinvolve
somesortofsynthesis,andcansometimesbecompletedwithoutevenventuringoutintotheperilouswilds.

Therearecountlessvariationsofguildlevesandthequeststhattheyrepresenteachwithdifferentobjectivesandrewards.Playerscanpossessup
toeightlevesatanyonetime.

DuringtheAlphaTest,thelistofguildlevesmadeavailablebytheAdventurersGuildwillchangeonceeverytwohours(Earthtime).Untilthatlistis
updated,playersmaynotacceptthesamelevequesttwice,normaytheyreturnanincompletelevequesthavingacceptedit.

RegionalGuildleves
SpeakwithPiralnautintheDrowningWenchtobrowsethevariousregionalguildlevesavailableinLimsaLominsa.Afterselectingaguildleve,travelto
theaetheryteindicatedinthelevequestobjectivestostartthequest.Anyplayersinyourpartyatthistimewillalsobeabletoparticipateinthe
levequest.Partymemberswhopossessthesameguildlevewillnotonlybeabletoparticipate,butalsoreceiveanyrewardsindicatedinthe
levequestobjectives.

Theobjectivesforcompletingalevequestwillbereadilyvisibleinawindowthroughoutthequestsduration.Mainmapandminimapmarkerswillalso
appear,andcanbeusedtohelpnavigate.Targetswillalsoalwayshaveaspecialiconnexttotheirnames,makingthemeasytorecognize.

Finally,levequesttargetscanonlybeseenbymembersparticipatinginthequest,soplayerswillneverhavetoworryabouttheirquarrybeing
snatchedupbytheoccasionalpasserby.

Atthesuccessfulcompletionofaregionallevequest,anaetherialnodewillappear.Playerscan(butarenotrequiredto)usethistemporaryportalto
returntotheaetherytewheretheytriggeredthequest.Itisatthistimethattheywillreceiveanyrewardsspecifiedontheguildleve.Ifalevequest
isfailed,anodewillnotappear.

PlayerswhoareKOdduringalevequestcancontinueparticipatinginthequestuponreturningtotheirhomepoint.

*Movingtoadifferentareaorloggingoutduringalevequestwillresultinquestfailureforthatparticipant.Allotherpartymemberscancontinue
withthequest.
*Levequestparticipantsincludeallpartymembers(whoarenotalreadyparticipatinginanotherlevequest)atthetimetheguildleveisactivated.
Changingpartymakeupafteractivatingaguildlevewillnotaffectaplayersparticipationstatus.
*Onlythoseparticipatinginalevequestcanattackthetargetsindicatedinthequestobjectives.

LocalGuildleves
LocalguildlevesareavailablefromTmokkri,stationednexttoPiralnautintheDrowningWench.Unlikeregionallevequests,localonesdonotneedto
beactivatedatanaetherytecrystalanddonothaveanytimelimits.AlocallevequestisstartedbypressingtheSynthesizebuttonlocatednear
theactionmenu.Fromthenewwindow,selectRequestedItemstobringupalistofavailablequests.Whilenormalsynthesisinvolvesprocuringthe
properitemsandcrystalstocraftanitem,theclientsoflocallevequestswillusuallyprovidethosetheyhirewiththenecessarymaterialshowever,
thisinvolvesfindingtheclientandspeakingwithhimorher.

*Thematerialsprovidedforlocallevequestsarenotaddedtoaplayersregularinventory,andareonlyavailableforuseincompletingthe
requesteditemsindicatedontheguildleve.
*Afterspeakingwiththeclientandreceivingthematerials,theitemswillappearautomaticallyinthesynthesiswindowafterselectingalevequest
fromtheRequestedItemsmenu(seeabove).Proceedwithsynthesis(asdescribedintheSynthesissectionbelow)tocrafttheitems.
*Completeditemswillnotbeplacedinaplayersinventory.Levequestprogresscanbefollowedbyviewingtheguildleve.

MiningandQuarrying
MembersoftheMinersGuildwillfindthattheyareabletoengageineitheroftwoactivitiesmining,madepossiblethroughuseofaminersprimary
tools,andquarrying,madepossiblebysecondarytools.Pleasebeawarethatevenwithminerastheactiveclass,aplayerwillnotbeabletoquarry
withoutthepropersecondarytoolequipped.

4.Excessivequarryingwillresultinaplayerbecomingtemporarilyunabletoquarryintheimmediatevicinity.

guildlevesspeciallytailoredforDisciplesoftheLand.
Currently,thelevequestQuarryingBeardedRockhasarecommendedskillrankof5andabove.Thoughthequestcanbeinitiatedasearlyas
rank1,successfulcompletionofthequestrequirestoolsthatmayonlybeequippedatrank5.Pleaseconsiderthisbeforeactivatingthequest.
Whileparticipatinginamininglevequest,theLithoscanandProspectcommandswillonlyproduceresultsforminingorquarryingpointsrelatedto
thequest.However,playerswhohappentofindregularpointscanaccessthemiftheyplease(thoughtheresultswillnotcounttowardthe
