ADMISSION TO IITs

CLASS XII PERFORMANCE-BASED ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

As outlined in the Information Brochure, a candidate must :

(1) be within the category-wise top 20-percentile of successful candidates in the

respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination; OR

(2) have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board
examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD candidates must be at least
65%.

The marks scored in the following five subjects will be considered for calculating the
aggregate marks and the cut-off marks for fulfilling the top 20 percentile criterion:
(1) Physics, (2) Chemistry, (3) Mathematics, (4) a language (if the candidate has
taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will
be considered), and (5) any subject other than the above four (the subject with the
higher marks will be considered).

If the marks awarded in a subject is NOT out of 100, then the marks will be scaled
(up or down) to 100 so that the total aggregate marks is out of 500.

Category-wise top 20-percentile cut-off marks for the years 2016 and 2017 are
enclosed here, which are applicable for candidates who completed Class XII in the
years 2016 and 2017, respectively.

If a candidate passes Class XII in 2016 but writes one or a few subjects in 2017 for
improvement or any other reason, then top 20 percentile cut-off for 2016 will be
considered. However, if a candidate writes all the subjects in 2017, the best of the
two performances will be considered. For more Information, visit
