1.2 Sole Performances

a. Ian Shanahan (soprano and tenor recorders), gave a recital during INFINITY and the MIND II:
Arts and Astronomy Exhibition, on May 6, 1998, at the Sydney Cove Authority Gallery, The
Rocks, Sydney. The works I performed were:

1.5 Participation in a Performance

a. Ian Shanahan (soprano recorder), participated in a performance during a Live National


Broadcast on ABC Classic FM from Eugene Goossens Hall, ABC Centre, Harris Street,
Ultimo, Sydney, as part of the weekly radio programme New Music Australia (hosted by
John Crawford), on Wednesday, 23 September 1998 at 9.30 pm. The work I performed,
with the ensemble austraLYSIS, was one of my own (sole) compositions:
Ian Shanahan: Zodiac: Crystal Orbit Improvisations (1996) for soprano recorder [Ian
Shanahan], MIDI wind instrument (Yamaha WX7) [Sandy Evans], and keyboard
synthesizer (Yamaha DX7) [Roger Dean].

1998 Marienberg Sydney Spring Award for Composition, for the most outstanding original
Australian composition (Shanahans piece Dimensiones Paradisi) performed during the
Ninth Sydney Spring International Festival of New Music (1998).

7. SPECIAL STUDENT ACTIVITIES (Undergraduate Students).

a. Under the direction of Ian Shanahan, four undergraduate students from the Music Department
at UWS Nepean have recently had their performance of Robert Allworths composition The
Ascension (1993) for recorder consort recorded and published on the Compact Disc Music
for a Champagne Breakfast (Volume 2) (Jade JADCD 1075, released during January 1998).
The students are: Amy Moon (soprano recorder), Christopher Wilson (alto recorder),
Christine Wheeler (tenor recorder), and Hasan Shanal (bass recorder). Ian Shanahan
produced this recording, while another undergraduate student from the Music Department,
Angelo Fraietta, was responsible for sound engineering and digital editing.
