Dear Trainee

Welcome to the Trinity College London Cert TESOL Course.

Your main trainers will be Maria Bjorning Gyde and Angie Komar.

Timetable
The course starts on Monday 30th June at 9.00am and finishes on Saturday 26th
July. You will find a complete timetable for the course enclosed.

Starter Pack
By now you should have completed the Starter Pack. The more work you have
done on this the better. Without sufficient knowledge of the grammar and
phonological content of the Starter Pack you will be seriously disadvantaged on
the course. There will be a brief test on the grammar and phonology sections on
the first day of the course.

Trinity Study Resources http://www.trinitycollege.co.uk/site/?id=1340

Please visit the Trinity website, and read the Study Resources for the CertTESOL
course to help you prepare further.

Teaching Practice
You are required to teach a minimum of 6 hours, which will be observed and
assessed by your tutors. These are spread over 8 teaching practice sessions, and
the lessons you teach will span 40 50 minutes approximately. Teaching practice
will take place every morning. Individual written feedback and oral group feedback
will be given immediately after the lesson at the end of the day. Half way through
the course you will have an individual interview with your TP tutor in which overall
progress will be discussed.

Guided Observation of experienced teachers

During the course you will observe 4 hours of classes taught by experienced
teachers. These observations will take place during weeks 1 and 2. You will be
given tasks to carry out during the observation to encourage you to focus on
specific aspects of the lesson.

Trinity CertTESOL
Assessment and Written Assignments
These are outlined in the Course Handbook, which should be brought to all
sessions. Deadlines are indicated on the course timetable and must be adhered to.
Assignments handed in late will be penalised. Be prepared to put time aside at the
weekends for these assignments, as well as TP preparation.

Trinity College Award

Final assessment is expressed as pass/referral/fail, certificates only being awarded
to successful trainees. To qualify for the award of Trinity Cert TESOL trainees must
pass all five units. If assignments are deemed below standard, trainees may be
required to resubmit. Please see your Course Handbook for further details.

English for Asia Assessment

On completion of the course we issue a Course Report which details a separate
assessment of the five units of the course and an overall summary.

Moderation
A moderator appointed by Trinity College will visit the centre on the last day of the
course. The moderator will interview groups of trainees and various aspects of the
course will be discussed. Following the group interviews, you will be required to
present your materials assignment in a one-to-one session for grading by the
moderator. It is a course requirement that you attend and certificates cannot be
awarded in absentia.

Stationery
You will be provided with binders and folders for your course handouts, Teaching
Practice Portfolio and assignments. Printing and photocopying is available at EfA.

If you have your own laptop, it is a good idea to bring this to the centre. It will
make life easier for you and reduce the demand on the EfA computers.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the
CertTESOL Manager at English for Asia.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Monday the 30th.

Regards

Maria Bjorning Gyde
