A Haunted Graveyard

There was no choice to make. I had to reach the other side of town as soon as possible and the best
route seemed through the graveyard. Uncle Prithviraj, my fathers old friend was in dire need of
medicines when he called me. Since my parents were away from home, he summoned me to fetch
the medicines from him.

I quickly collected the medicines from the clinic of Dr. Jha, a well known pharmacist. As I stood by
the gate of St. John Cemetery, I took a patient look at my watch. It was 11:15 pm on a cold, lonely
Friday night. Waiting for a cab seemed a foolish decision as it would surely take more than half an
hour for a cab to appear on this side of town. There was a scribbling on the cemetery wall which
read, Return while you still can. Rather than freaking out, I understood it to be some cunning joke.
As I remembered my uncles fading voice, a gush of warm blood pushed me through the creaking
half-open gate of the graveyard. Trotting through the moonlit path, I couldnt imagine myself to be
more courageous. I always thought of me as a person who didnt get scared of dark, ominous places
but this was more of a practical experience. The cold, dry winds brushing past my skin felt like
carriers of fear. But realising it could be a matter of life or death for my beloved uncle; I kept walking
towards a destination which seemed miles away.

As I thought I had overcome the eeriness of the atmosphere, a haunting growl of a wild dog shivered
my spine. Nevertheless I kept walking. As I looked down upon my path, I saw fresh, bare footprints
of a person. This could not be a coincidence..... I quickened my pace. Suddenly I saw a vanishing
figure down the crooked path and to my horror, the humane structure looked much alike my uncle.
At the first instance I thought myself to be dreaming, but the moment it laid its frosty, blue eyes
upon me, all my doubts were erased. The only explanation for that apparition was A Ghost. I was
bewildered and started running. At that moment, the only thing my eyes were searching for was the
other end of the graveyard. While running, my ears perceived another set of footsteps right behind
me. I was too scared to look back. Beyond the ill-shaped trees and wild bushes, I could see some
faint lights of the city. The sight brought a new ray of hope. I ran as fast as I could and was able to
reach the other side in time.
