ORIGIN BLUE

“A sincere friendship expressed musically in this

impressive debut outing” – Andy Milne, Dapp Theory

Drawing influences from nearly everything that crosses their path,

Origin Blue creates music that is both easily recognizable and hard to
categorize. The genre-bending trio combines all forms of music from
funk to free and distills them into sounds that are as thought-
provoking as they are danceable. Pianist/keyboardist Isamu
McGregor, bassist Evan Crane and drummer Jeff Hatcher are all
seasoned musicians that bring passion and infectious energy to their
music, especially in live performances. Playing both originals and
innovative takes on standards, O rigin Blue is looking to make its
mark on the international music scene.

Isam u Mc Greg or is a jazz pianist/keyboardist who spends time in both
Manhattan and Los Angeles. Born into a musical family, Isamu showed signs of his
musical ability very early in his childhood. He studied classical piano for 11 years,
but switched to jazz once he entered high school. Since then, he attended New York
University, where he studied jazz with Wayne Krantz, Jean-Michel Pilc, Francesco
Bearzatti, Greg Burk, Don Friedman, Tony Moreno, Andy Milne, Martin Wind,
Ralph Lalama, Peter Schwebs and Nick Anderson. Isamu has performed all types of
music in venues worldwide, including BB King’s and The Key Club in Los Angeles,
The Bitter End in Manhattan and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland,
among many others. He has also traveled around Europe performing for Royal
Caribbean Cruise Lines. His playing has been characterized as melodic and full of
life whether performing modern jazz, heavy funk or hard bop. Isamu's natural
musical instincts and easygoing yet professional manner make him an often-sought
musician and collaborator.

Ev an Cra n e is an upright and electric bassist currently living in New York City.
His wide array of influences and unique approach to groove and melody form a
musical melting pot very much akin to the cultural diversity of the city in which he
resides. Born in Australia but relocated to Upstate New York, Evan began his
musical explorations on the bass at age of 16. Upon discovering his musical voice,
Evan pursued it with intense passion and fervor. He co-founded The Blind Maestros
and The Kingside Trio, two jazz/groove trios that played extensively within the
Hudson Valley. From there he moved to New York City to attend the jazz program
at New York University, where he studied under Martin Wind, Mike Richmond,
Tony Moreno, Andy Milne, John Scofield, Dave Pietro, Billy Drewes and Ron Blake.
Though firmly grounded in the roots of the bass, Evan's playing style is heavily
influenced by his piano background in classical, jazz and improvised music. This
along with his study of African, Indian, Cuban and Mediterranean rhythms creates
the versatile pallet from which he draws his inspiration in both his playing and his
compositions. Fueled by his passionate devotion to his craft and his determined and
professional attitude, Evan is full of self-expression and creativity and seeks to form
new horizons in the world of music.

Jeff Ha tc her is a creative and well-rounded drummer who is currently enrolled in

the Jazz Studies program at New York University. His wholistic understanding of
music comes from his studies under a variety of accomplished musicians including
Tony Moreno, Bernie Dressel, Canaan McDuffie, Andy Milne, Mike Richmond, John
Scofield and Billy Drewes. Jeff has further developed his musical talents outside of
the United States by traveling to Trinidad and Tobago, where he studied and
performed with the country's renowned percussion group, Drummers of Tomorrow.
