DETAILED REMARKS FOR THE SCHEDULE FOR THE SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENT FOR PAGE
DESIGNED CONCRETE FOR USE ON CONTRACT 1 OF 3
CONTRACT TITLE: Mule International Hotel
CONTRACT PERIOD:
REMARK REQUIREMENT DETAILED INFORMATION
4.3.2 b Compressive This item specifies the characteristic strength of the structural member, which will have
strength to be verified by cube tests during the construction process and a trial mix prior to
construction. A margin of defectives of 2.5% and 5% has been specified for trial mixes
and produced concrete respectively.
4.3.2 c Limiting values of These limiting values for the concrete mix MUST be respected and the contractor has to
composition produce a trial mix design prior to producing the required volumes of concrete. The
contractor should then fill the form attached on appendix 1 and submit the same to the
consultant to approve the mix design before commencement of production.
4.3.2. d Cement The types of cement that can be used have been specified. The contractor should obtain
combination a certificate attesting the strength class and the type of cement being used.
types
4.3.2 e Maximum The maximum size of aggregate to be used should be as specified. The aggregate should
aggregate size be saturated and surface dry prior to usage.
4.3.2. f Chloride class The chloride class of the cement being used should be as specified and the contractor
should present a certificate of the same prior to production of concrete.
4.3.2. g For light weight The target density of the produced concrete should be verified and should be within the
and heavy weight limits specified. The contractor should verify this during the trial mix design. When using
concrete target a concrete mixer, it is mandatory to measure all constituents by weight and for the
density mixer to mix the constituents for at least 2.5 minutes.
4.3.2 i Consistence The consistence (workability) of the concrete mix should be as specified. Slump should
be measured every 10m3 for columns, every 20m3 for beams, slabs and every 50m3 for
mass foundations as per BS 1881: Part 102 or BS EN 12350 2 and the attached
certificate on appendix 2 filled each time and submitted to consultant.
Slump class Slump range (mm) Max. allowable deviation on range limit (mm)
Spot sample Composite sample
S1 10 - 40 -10, +30 -10, +20
S2 50 - 90 -20, +30 -10, +20
S3 100 - 150 -20, +30 -10, +20
S4 160 - 210 -20, +30 -10, +20
4.3.2 Accredited third A sample of 6 cubes should be tested every 10m3 for columns, every 20m3 for beams,
Note2 party product slabs and every 50m3 for mass foundations. 3 cubes tested at 7 days and 3 at 28 days.
conformity The cubes should be produced and cured as per BS 1881: Part 111 or BS EN 12390 2.
certification The attached form should be filled by contractor every time a cube is produced and
cured, appendix 3 and 4 respectively. It is the characteristic strength that is crucial and
not the average. It is left to the contractor to decide on the number of samples (6 being
the minimum) to control the standard deviation of test results. Test results should be
attested by a third party.
4.3.3 c Restrictions on Fine aggregates should have maximum clay, silt and dust content of 3% of weight of
the use of certain sand. If standard testing mechanism as per BS 812: Part 1 is not available site
aggregates verification methods can be used. The contractor should also specify how much fine
aggregate by % of volume is passing through a 600m sieve during trial mix and every
time a new batch is used.
4.3.3 m Finishing of All concrete surfaces are to be finished as a smooth textured surface on to which
concrete surface gypsum plaster can be directly applied without having to chisel the concrete surface and
apply a mortar plaster.
