Pintu Terlarang is one of the best film Thriller, in recent year. Released 2009, directed
by Joko Anwar with producer Lala Timothy and Distributed by Lifelike Picture. It stars Fachri
Albar as Gambir and spanish actor Marsha Timothy (Thalida), Ario Bayu, Otto Djauhari, Tio
Pakusadewo, and Henidar Amroe. This film was based on amazing Novell by Sekar Ayu
Asmara.
The basic story starts a very successful sculptor named Gambir had his own trick to
make his statue seemed alive. He was actually sick of what he had done but his beautiful wife
said it was okay. After his sold out exhibition, he started seeing and hearing things. The first
one he saw was a childs handwriting on his porch saying Tolong Saya (help me). Things
became worst after he accidentally found a red locked door in his studio. Talyda, his wife, told
him never to open the door no matter what and he must forget that the door even exists.
The message kept showing up till he found a place called Herosase, an unusual place
where people came to enjoy seeing what a hidden camera being installed on other peoples
house. Gambir finally saw the child who had been leaving messages to him, he was physically
and mentally abused by his parents. He wanted to help the boy before it was too late. But what
he found in Herosase was not only about the boy, he saw what he mustnt see. What he saw
snapped him from reality.
Gambir is actually a mental hospital patient. From the information obtained through the
dialogue between the RSJ officer and the journalist named Pusparanti (who is also played by
Marsha Timothy), Gambir becomes a patient from the age of 8 because of killing both parents.
The characters in Gambir's adult "life" are taken from the characters he encountered in the RSJ.
Officer, sweeper, journalist named Pusparanti and fellow patients RSJ itself. Well, who knows
what a psycho thinks? This is another truth (twist), that actually the poor little boy is himself.
Perhaps the point of all is that he has regretted the murder and wants to save his past from the
mistakes that little Gambir did.
This film is a set unique which must use Logicallly, but it make a elegant like a labyrinth
where we will invited into it then out or trapped in there. The action is played by most powerful
actors such as Fachri Albar (Gambir). I think should be rewarded nomination as best actor.
Even though, Marsha Timothy (Thalida) played nicely and looked mature with her acting. As
well as with another actors, who demonstrated briliant acting. The character of Mrs. Mona
(Kartika Jahja), the leader of Herosase who played less than 5 minute, but her appearence with
a cool women and mysterious, able to make the film amazing.
In the Cinematography, Pintu Terlarang make presticious. Presentation 2000s film
atmosphere with setting time and place appropriated. Seen in the opening scene with colorfull
like red, yellow, blue and animated effects, so like old movie. The soundtrack is impressive
and includes the theme song Musics Score, by Aghi Narotama, Bemby Gusti and Mondo
Gascaro. With jazz, classic, swing maked nuace so beautiful. In Costume, it use classy and
graceful such as Thalidas dress.
I think, a part of the film very impressed by acting psyco Gambir during dinner table
scene. He was dialogued with people who would be killed by him. In the moment, accompany
with relaxed music. I would highly recommend Pintu Terlarang, especially if you are keen
on Thrillers film. It will have you on the edge of your seat untill the very end. I am sure you
will not regret watching it.
