Activity 1 Using Art/Imaging and Graphics Software (AG)


Karen wants a logo for the Indoor Pentathlon. She has started to create the logo.
This is saved as PENMAWR.
Task AG1
Open a new document using word processing software.
Enter Task AG1 and your name, candidate number and centre number in the footer of the
document.
SAVE the document as TASK AG1.

(a) (i) Insert the graphic PENMAWR into the document TASK AG1.

Karen is not happy with her design.
(ii) Use text boxes to identify two aspects of the design which should be improved.

Open a suitable graphics package.

(b) (i) Create a new logo for the Indoor Pentathlon.


The logo must include:
one image from the GRAPHICS file
the letters PFC.

(ii) Check that the finished logo is fit for purpose.

SAVE this logo as PFC.
Paste a copy of PFC into TASK AG1.
RESAVE TASK AG1.
DO NOT PRINT at this stage.

(c) Explain in document TASK AG1 why your design is an improvement on Karens
original.

Task AG1
Open a new document using word processing software.
Enter Task AG1, your name, candidate number and centre number in the footer of the
document.
SAVE the document as TASK AG1.

(a) Angela wants to use the photograph AIRPLANE on the InterAYR website. She wants
the image cropped before it is used.

Open a suitable art/graphics package.


Open the image AIRPLANE.

Crop the image so that:

Paste the cropped image into TASK AG1.
RESAVE TASK AG1.
DO NOT PRINT at this stage.
(b) Angela wants the image PLANE altered to use as the company logo. The logo must
be suitable for printing in colour or black and white.

Open a suitable art/graphics package.


Open the image PLANE.

Change the image so that:

Paste a copy of the image into TASK AG1.
RESAVE TASK AG1.

(c) In document TASK AG1 explain how the changes to the image PLANE make it fit for
purpose as the logo.

Task AG1

Open a new document using word processing software.


Enter Task AG1, your name, candidate number and centre number in the footer
of the document.
SAVE the document as TASK AG1.

(a) Jonathan would like a logo for Whylde Safari Park (WSP).

Open a suitable graphics package.


Create the logo.
The logo must be fit for purpose and include:

one suitable image from the IMAGES folder.

Paste a copy of WSPLOGO into TASK AG1.

(b) Jonathan wants to use an image of an elephant to illustrate a slide presentation.


He has an image saved as POSTER.

Open the image POSTER in a suitable graphics package.

Edit the image by:

(a) Frederick wants a logo for the company.

Create the logo.


The logo must be fit for purpose and include:
the letters DHG and the number 2000
one suitable image from the IMAGES folder.

Paste a copy of DHGlogo into TASK AG1.
RESAVE TASK AG1.

(b) Answer this question on the document TASK AG1.


Explain why the type of image you have chosen is suitable for use in a logo.

Task AG2

Open a new document using word processing software.


Enter Task AG2, your name, candidate number and centre number in the footer of
the document.
SAVE the document as TASK AG2.

(a) Frederick has an image of the Shore Temple near Chennai. He plans to use this on a
web page.
He has saved the image as TEMPLE.

Open the image TEMPLE in a suitable graphics package.

(i) Crop the image to remove:


the tourists from the right side of the image
the trees from the left side of the image.
Make sure the image remains rectangular.

(ii) There is a tourist (in a white shirt) standing in the entrance of the temple.
Alter the image so that he is no longer visible.

SAVE the image as SHORE.


Paste a copy of SHORE into TASK AG2.
RESAVE TASK AG2.
DO NOT PRINT at this stage.

(b) Answer this question on the document TASK AG2.


Explain the benefit of reducing the size of the image TEMPLE.

Martin has created a logo for the company.


He has saved the logo as TERRIER.
Task AG1

Open a new document using word processing software.


Enter Task AG1, your name, candidate number and centre number in the footer of the
document.
SAVE the document as TASK AG1.

(a) (i) Insert the graphic TERRIER into the document TASK AG1.

(ii) Martin is not happy with the design of the logo.
In document TASK AG1, identify two aspects of the design that should be
improved.

Task AG7

Open a new document using word processing software.


Enter Task AG2, your name, candidate number and centre number in the footer of the
document.
SAVE the document as TASK AG2.

Martin wants to use the image HOUSE in a presentation.

Open the image HOUSE in a suitable graphics package.

(a) The image must remain rectangular.


Crop the image to remove:
the house and telephone pole on the left of the gateway
the gravel pathway below the yellow rectangle
the tree on the right of the house
as much of the sky as possible without cropping the mountain peak.

(b) Add the text THR for terrific holidays to the yellow rectangle.

SAVE the image as HOLIDAY.


Paste a copy of HOLIDAY into TASK AG2.

SAM 2

Task AG1
Open a new A4 document using word processing software.
Enter Task AG1 and your name, candidate number and centre number in the footer of
the document
SAVE the document as Task AG1.
Open a suitable Art/Graphics software package.
Open the graphic file LOGO. This shows the current logo used by the shop.

(a) Fiona wants some changes made to the logo design.


(i) Crop the image so that the green area is removed.
(2)
(ii) Change the text on the logo by replacing the letters A and P in the image of the
newspaper to the letters F and J.
(2)
(iii) Change the colour of the background of the logo from brown to pale blue.

(iv) Replace the text Petan News with the text Fiojons.
You should:
use a sans serif font (eg Arial) in dark blue
replace the yellow background with the same pale blue colour used for the
rest of the background of the logo.

(v) Draw a thin black border around the logo.

SAVE the graphic as NEW LOGO
DO NOT PRINT at this stage.

(b) Import your graphic NEW LOGO into the document Task AG1. It should occupy the
full width of the page, between margins.

(c) The image of the newspaper on the logo is not very good. Explain why the image
which is saved as NEWS.JPG would NOT be a suitable alternative.

RESAVE the document as TASK AG1.
