On 08/05/17 at 2:39 a.m. officers were dispatched to an assault that had just occurred at the
intersection of 9th Avenue and 7th Street South. Upon arrival officers determined that a 22 year
old male victim from Waconia had been walking home with friends when they encountered
several other males walking as well. According to witness accounts, the victim was punched in
the face by the suspect after a short verbal dispute. Officers located the suspect a short
distance away at which time witnesses identified him as the person that had thrown the punch.

The suspect was identified as 21 year old Travis Allen Johnson of St. Cloud. Johnson was taken
into custody and transported to the Stearns County Jail where he was issued a citation for 5 th
degree assault.

The victim had no visible signs of injury, complained of a headache, but refused any medical
attention and ultimately went home with his friends.

At 12:25 hours officers were sent to a medical at a residence in the 2200 block of 10 th Avenue
South in which a male was not responsive. Upon arrival officers, St. Cloud Firefighters, and Gold
Cross Paramedics initiated life saving measures however the male did not survive and died at
that location. Officers determined that the deceased was the 22 year old male victim from the
assault that had occurred earlier that morning. The males body was transported to the Ramsey
County Medical Examiners Office for autopsy. The male was identified as 22 year old Anthony
Quinn Shriver of Waconia.

On 08/06/17 results from the autopsy indicated that Shriver had died of trauma consistent with
the assault that had occurred during the early morning hours of 08/05/17.

On 08/06/17 at approximately 10:55 p.m. the suspect, Travis Johnson, turned himself in at the St.
Cloud Police Department after officers had been trying to locate his whereabouts. Johnson was
transported to the Stearns County Jail where he is being held on the charge of 2 nd Degree Murder.

Anyone who witnessed or has information regarding the assault that took
place on 08/05/17 at approximately 2:39 a.m. at the intersection of 9 th Avenue
and 7th Street South is asked to call the St. Cloud Police Department at
