class, when we were told we would be reading about monsters, I was honestly a bit
skeptical. I have never really been a fan of the horror genre of books or movies. To
me, horror was always a genre of pure entertainment and no real value. I couldnt
Reading the material we read in this class, and discussing the different
cultural impacts associated with them was really eye opening for me. Finding a
connection with monsters and their plight is not something I would have every
thought to be possible, but it definitely is. I learned a lot about how authors and
storytellers can use monsters to speak about issues that impact every single one of
us. Issues of identity, race, sexual orientation, consent, family, background and self
are all explored within these stories and to really take a step back and analyze the
lessons learned from these stories is invaluable. I would highly recommend this
