LEVEL OF AWARENESS ON BULLYING

Introduction

Bullying is something that can hurt you on the inside or on the outside. It hurts you on the

outside by hitting you and hurting you physically. It hurts you on the inside by name calling,

skitting or hurting your feelings. Bullying is done on purpose, its not an accident. If someone

hurts you during a game by accident that is not bullying, but if every time you played a game

they hurt you, or your feelings that you would be bullied. It can aim to hurt a group of people or

just one person and can be done by a group or just one person. Bullying happens more than once.

The bully/bullies do it over and over again and they can take away your self-esteem and

confidence. Almost everyone will be affected by bullying during their life. This can be as a child

or as a young person or it can happen as an adult in work, it can even be as an elderly person in

the community.

Bullying affects the ability for students to learn in an effective manner. Students need to

feel safe and secure physically, emotionally and socially before learning can

occur. Bullying actions by peers in and outside of the school environment can negatively affect

students abilities to learn. Therefore, it is vital that the schools implement a comprehensive anti-

bully program that is effective.

School bullying is a pervasive problem found in elementary, middle, and high around the

world. It can take many direct and indirect forms, including physical violence, name-calling,

taunting, teasing, malicious rumour-spreading and social exclusion. Once thought of as a normal

part of growing up, school bullying is now widely recognized as a serious problem that must be

met with systematic preventative efforts. This article examines the nature, prevalence, and effects

of school bullying. It discusses profiles of bullies and victims, and explores the most effective

methods now used to combat school bullying

To prevent and stop bullying, we must first understand it. In the instantaneous electronic

world of youth culture, bullying is like a virus or other diseases that have proven difficult to

eradicate: spreading rapidly, constantly mutating, virtually impossible to quarantine. States and

districts are increasingly in support of policies and practices that shift school discipline away

from zero tolerance, such as suspension and expulsion, to discipline that is focused on teaching

and engagement.

Our aim in conducting this research is to know how to prevent bullyin, what is the reason

why a bully becomes a bully, how to stop bullies from bullying, what area the side effects of

bullying and how bullied persons overcome bullying? We would like to know how the bullying

affects students lives.
