ships with third-party producers, we are able to deliver a truly
extraordinary line-up of programming for global viewers.
Presented at the exclusive MIPTV Drama Screenings, RIDE
UPON THE STORM is produced by Denmarks DR Drama
in coproduction with ARTE France and SAM le Franais.
BAFTA-winning creator Adam Price (Borgen) has turned
his attention to the concept of faith and religion and how it
affects our lives in this modern, character-led story produced
by Camilla Hammerich (Borgen) and starring Lars Mikkelsen
(House of Cards).
Inspired by epic biblical tales, the drama centers on a family
of priests that traces its roots back more than 250 years:
Johannes (Lars Mikkelsen) and Elisabeth (Ann Eleonora
Jrgensen, The Killing) and their two sons August and Chris-
tian. Johannes, as a priest and father, is God-like to his sons.
But his favoritism for August and his disappointment with
Christian forces both young men to make desperate choices
to either gain the love of their father or make him release
his control over their lives. The path towards possible salva-
tion will lead us into war and conflicts between the worlds
religions, seen through the intimate lens of a family drama.
RIDE UPON THE STORM explores good and evil and the
spiritual journey of finding ones way and seeking a greater
meaning in life because we all believe in something,
especially when a storm is approaching. We will launch
season one (10 x one hour) at MIPTV which broadcasts
on DR1 in the fall with a second 10 x one hour season
already commissioned to air in 2018.
SAM Productions has created BELOW THE SURFACE, a
nerve-racking eight-part crime thriller for Denmarks Kanal 5,
in coproduction with ZDFneo. In a subway train beneath
Copenhagen, fifteen innocent people are taken hostage by
three masked armed men. A terror taskforce is dispatched to
rescue them, while reporter Naja Toft acts as go-between
with the police as the captors bait the press with informa-
tion about each hostages past. For eight days the tense
stand-off grips Denmark, as those trapped underground
lose all hope for survival...
Kasper Barfoed is creator, head writer and concept director
of BELOW THE SURFACE, alongside Morten Kjems Hytten
Juhl who serves as producer, SAM Productions Sren
Sveistrup (The Killing), Adam Price (Borgen) and Meta Louise

Seyberth and Wolfgang Feindt as executive producers.
Also from SAM Productions for Denmarks TV2 and inspired
by real events, new ten-part drama SOMETHINGS ROCKIN
tells the fascinating story of the birth, rise and fall of Radio
Mercur, a pirate radio station founded by a small group of
music-loving dreamers in the late 1950s. At a time when
rock n roll was banned by the two government-run radio
channels, and nobody had yet dared to challenge this state
monopoly, the drama follows three bold young protagonists
as they throw caution to the wind, and give the people the
pop music that they crave.
The UKs RED Production Company has created TRUST ME
for BBC One, a four-part character-led drama written by
Dan Sefton (Mr Selfridge, The Five). Set in Edinburgh, TRUST
ME tells the story of Cath (Jodie Whittaker, Broadchurch), a
hardworking and skilled nurse who loses her job for whistle-
blowing. Forced to take drastic measures to provide for her
daughter, she steals her best friends identity as a senior doc-
tor and starts a new life. Burying herself deeper into the im-
poster persona, she realises she really could get everything
she ever wanted the job, the man, the dream but with
her old life threatening to destroy her fragile creation, how
far will she go to protect it?
We are also delighted to unveil two exciting new international
dramas at MIPTV 2017 which, as well as being available as
finished programmes, we believe have very strong potential
as scripted formats.
Set in a school, and combining the universal themes of a
complex murder mystery and secret love, THE TEACH is an
enthralling crime thriller set in a school amid the beautiful
Polish woodlands of Dobrowice. The very first original pro-
duction for NC+ in Poland, THE TEACH broke all records
and made ratings history when it was broadcast at the end
of last year. Everyone loves a paranormal story, especially
if it is combined with a mystery, and from renowned Italian
director Carmine Elia (Il Sistema) comes LA PORTA ROSSA,
a 12 x one hour intriguing crime thriller with a supernatural
twist, commissioned for RAI 2.
