Foreword
The National Computer Board (NCB) has been vested with the responsibility to
spearhead the development of an information society in Mauritius while
supporting e-Government initiatives to make of Information and
Communication Technologies (ICT) the fifth pillar of the economy.
It is in this context that the NCB has taken the initiative this year to publish
the very first Directory of ICT Companies in Mauritius which comes to fill in a
missing link which would but facilitate interaction amongst companies
operating in the local ICT industry while increasing visibility of these
enterprises on the international scene.
The Directory, which provides with contact details a complete list of companies
active to-date in the local ICT sector, will henceforth be published every year
with updates so as to reflect the true picture of the wide array of ICT-related
activities being conducted in the country.
The compilation of this communication tool will not only ensure a constant
monitoring of development in the ICT sector but will also be a most important
promotion instrument at ICT events abroad, thus enabling easy contact
between Mauritian enterprises and international investors, outsourcers and
joint venture partners.
We trust the presence on this list of names of key high profile international
players like Infosys, Microsoft, Accenture, the Hinduja Group, the TNT Group,
IBM and Oracle will vouch for the reputation of the country as a safe and
investment-friendly destination for business.
There are currently more than 300 companies operating in the ICT sector,
involved in a wide range of activities including software development, call
centre, business process outsourcing (BPO), IT-enabled services (ITES), training,
hardware assembly and sales, networking and other support services.
The emergent ICT industry, which took off with the liberalisation of the
telecommunications sector only four years ago, boasts of good performance.

There is a huge potential for Mauritius to further consolidate its ICT sector by
fostering exports of ICT products and services particularly with the significant
45% cut in the cost of international bandwidth over the last two years.
Mauritius is well connected to the rest of the world via satellite and through
the South Africa Far East (SAFE) submarine cable providing high bandwidth
international connectivity. Connection to the SAFE cable network has enabled
the significant cut in tariffs on international telecommunications services
including International Private Leased Circuit (IPLC) and IP connectivity to the
Global Internet (IP-IPLC & IP-VPN).
A successful outcome of Government efforts to be party to the Eastern Africa

Submarine Cable System (EaSSY) currently under construction is expected to
further bring down the cost of international connectivity and enhance
business potentials.
The availability of the Directory in companies’ boardrooms in Mauritius and

abroad will, we hope, enable fruitful contacts amongst players in the ICT
industry and open the door to new investment opportunities and tie ups with
Mauritian entrepreneurs.

The National Computer Board at a glance
The NCB was established in 1988 and is a para-statal body which operates under
the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications. As
the apex organisation responsible for fostering the growth and promotion of ICT
and ICT-related activities in Mauritius, the role of the NCB is to e-power businesses,
people and the public sector, in line with national goals.
The NCB is a key enabler in transforming Mauritius into a regional ICT hub and,
amongst others, advises Government on the elaboration of national policies for
the development of the local ICT sector.
E-powering businesses
The NCB facilitates the development of the Mauritian ICT industry through various
initiatives, including:
• the promotion of entrepreneurship in ICT through its Incubator Centre
• the development of ICT market expansion
• the compilation of indicators and studies to assess the penetration and
usage of ICT across the different economic sectors and households
• participation in international fairs to promote the Mauritian ICT industry abroad
E-powering people
With the aim to transform Mauritius into an Information Society, the NCB
e-powers people by:
• creating ICT awareness
• diffusing ICT culture across the island
• spreading ICT literacy among the public
• creating awareness on the benefits of ICT for improving quality of life
• promoting ICT for social development
E-powering the public sector

The NCB e-powers the public sector by participating in e-Government initiatives,
by:
• building and managing the Government Online Centre, which is the main
infrastructure enabling e-Government
• managing the Government Web Portal, through which Government services are
provided online
• providing free hosting facilities and technical assistance for the development
of websites and portals of Ministries and Government Departments
About this Directory
In line with its objective to e-power businesses, the NCB has
launched a number of ICT Market Expansion initiatives aimed at
assisting Mauritian ICT companies with developing their export
markets.
In this context, the NCB has compiled this Directory of ICT

companies in Mauritius, with a view to market Mauritian ICT
companies, provide information on ICT products and services that
are offered by Mauritian companies and facilitate business
relationships.
The complete list of companies in this Directory is found on pages

08 to 17, including details of export and non-export oriented
companies and their respective fields of activities.
The detailed profile of each company is displayed on pages 18 to

165.

Snapshot of the Mauritian ICT Industry
There are currently about 300 companies operating in the ICT sector in
Mauritius, involved in a wide range of activities including software
development, call centre, BPO, web-enabled activities, training,
hardware assembly and sales, networking and other support services.
These include around 110 companies involved in ITES-BPO activities and
mainly servicing export markets including the USA, France, the UK,
Belgium and other European countries.
ITES-BPO is a very strong segment of the local ICT industry. Over the
recent years, this sector has experienced an exponential growth. As at
January 2006, 4,332 people were employed in this sector, with call
centres being the highest generator of employment with 2,371 people .
Most of the major service providers (IBM, Microsoft, SAP, ORACLE, HP,
amongst others) have a presence in Mauritius. IBM, Microsoft and HP
also have their regional office on the island. Mauritius has successfully
attracted key international players, such as Infosys, the Hinduja Group,
Accenture, the TNT Group, Teleforma and Bowman International, to set
up development centres, conduct BPO activities and operate disaster
recovery centres.
There are two main ICT industry associations in Mauritius, namely, the
Mauritius Information Technology Industry Association (MITIA) and
ACT. MITIA is an association of major ICT companies, and ACT is an
u m b re l l a a l l i a n c e re g ro u p i n g t h e a s s o c i a t i o n s o f I S P s , o f
telecommunications service providers and of call centres.
