CHAPTER 2: THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH


Rationale A Christian belongs to a community often of conflicting ideas and
norms. Yet primarily, he is Churched. He is therefore confined to live
the within the ways of the Church-the ways of Christ. The Church is
called to be a sacrament of Christ bestowed with a mission, done in
twofold ways.
CONTENT UNDERSTANDING
Content The students demonstrate understanding of the meaning of Christs
Standards salvific mission in our present world.
Performance The Students must be able to:
Standards 1. Commit themselves to a particular way of carrying out social
responsibility
2. Appreciate the importance of community (Church) as a powerful
instrument of Gods love in the world.

Learning The Students will be able to:


Competencies 1. Explain the nature and mission of the Church
2. Discuss the two ways of doing its social mission and give
specific examples on how to participate in the Churchs two
ways of doing its mission.
3. Be able to do a simple social analysis

Session 1: Motivation: Social Analysis of school related problems in
SSJ.
The Students are grouped into four each group is given a task to work
on, yet all groups must give a response to SSJ problems, and the reason
why they are happening.
A similar story is provided in the book. The drowning babies in the river.
Each day the number of babies increases. The reason why is a mystery.
The rescuers were involved in the issue directly but the whence the
babies are is still a why.

Session 2 and 3: Explore and Firm up


A. Foundations of social responsibility
The Social Analysis done in the previous session shall be explained. For
one main reason, they must involve themselves to help solve student
related problems because they are family-one school community/class.
B. The One Church
The Church is also called to be united in herself.

Session 4: Deepen
C. The Church as the Sacrament of Christ
