Arranging data to convey meaning - Tables, Graphs and Frequency Distribution

Frequency Distribution: Is a tabular summary of data showing the number (frequency) of
observations in each of several non-overlapping class Interval
Constructing a Frequency Distribution
i. Decide the number of class Interval: 2k >N , where k represents the number of classes and
N the total number of observations.
ii. Determine the width of the class Intervals:
! "
=
# !$ %& ' ( ) (
iii. Determine class limits (or boundaries)
Methods of Data Classification:
Exclusive Method: When the data are classified in such a way that the upper limit of a class
interval is the lower limit of the succeeding class interval.
Inclusive Method: When the data are classified in such a way that both lower and upper
limits of a class interval are included in the interval itself.
