Gupta & Mr.R.C Juneja
PHARMA RATAN AWARD 2016 was organised by a national NGO Rab Di Meher for
global pharma stake holders, as a token of recognition and respect to the unsung heroes of
pharma fraternity. The significance of these awards lies in the distinct approach deployed for
the nominations. Whereas the usual practice is to choose the highly recognized names which
are already popular in the field, au contraire, the focus for these awards was to actually put in
effort and identify those who really deserve acknowledgement and recognition on a global
platform and motivate them for carving a better future.
Safety is the key word in Pharma industry, which differentiates a medication from poison.
For safe use of medications, it is imperative that its gravity is understood and practiced
throughout the Pharma domain This common goal can be achieved only by collaborative
alliance across the manufacturers, API suppliers, distributors, retailers, healthcare
professionals, dispensers and last but not the least the regulatory officials. Pharmacovigilance
department is the overall guardian for the entire lifecycle, right from the Laboratory to the
patient. For distant spectators, it has always been an assumption that Pharmaceuticals is a
highly profitable business, but the healthcare professionals involved really understand the
facets of the reality. What is not visible to the outside world is the billions of dollars that go
into research and maintaining the highest level of standards in the manufacturing and other
specific parts of the landscape, which need to be covered to ensure the best quality
medications reach the needy patients at a reasonable price.

Indian Pharma industry is not yet a developed regulatory market like US and EU. Even
though Indian pharma industry is one of the largest industries, directly employing more than
5 million resources, the coordination across the domains is the need of the hour. In order to
accomplish that, a common platform was required to bring the various stakeholders of the
pharma world together. We identified all pharma stake holders and united them under the
single roof. These included API manufacturers, finished formulation manufacturers,
regulators, exporters, sales and distributors, academicians, Scientists, clinical research
organisation, Pharmacovigilance professionals, Consultants, and young achievers in these
categories.
This platform is first of its kind to promote interactions between personnel from these
categories. For instance, academics is the source of industry professionals, bringing them
together enhances the understanding of mutual needs wherein both the sides are benefitted.
They can calibrate on the changing needs with the time, resulting in better alliance. More
suitable candidates can be introduced in the industry by constantly upgrading the academic
ground. The research scholars and their contribution has a direct impact on the momentum of
Income Tax Tribunal Appellant Govt of India Hon. Satish Gurg Welcoming DCGI
the industry, whereas the financial assistance for the research is provided by the industrialists.
To augment this, Renowned academicians from the highest reputed academic institutions
were invited, namely AIIMS, IIT BHU, Jamia Hamdard, GJU, Pune University etc. Similarly
another set of keys individuals were the hard-to-reach regulators of the market. With the
manufacturers sharing the same space, we witnessed their discussions in which it was
apparent that the manufacturers placed their perspective for the regulators to come up as a
collaborative partner, rather than a controlling agent. The regulators from CDSCO lent their
valuable vision to all the stake-holders. Their influence on the academics can provide insights
to the budding professionals right from the foundation and instil the zeal to strive for new
heights. The NGO is planning to take it to the next level by organizing workshops across the
domain with the involvement of the representatives.
Consultants are one of the important stake holders of pharma industry. Consultants may be a
legal, financial and regulatory consultant. Regulators can use consultants as their extended
hands and regulators should invite all consultant in work shop so that they can guide industry
people perfectly. Regulator should register consultants and should made them accountable for
wrong doing. Consultants are allowed in all institution whether financial and or legal and
hence consultants should be legalise with pharma regulatory body as well.

MD of Gulfar Mr.Sudhir Sinha, Retd.ADC.Shirish Dhabade, Mr.Ashish Hande

Media is an indispensable part of every industry. However, the challenge is to set the
accountability for media. Manipulation of news by media is not unheard of, and it is a
common consensus that the quest for TRP openly dominates the essence of truth. Bring them
onto such platform and making them a part of the entire movement would impart a new sense
of accountability. Being a part of fraternity they would be under the same roof, with
enhanced understanding about the subject matter.
Pharma Nutraceutical is a new trend and it is widely growing market everywhere in the world
and there are many patient concerns is there. There should be dialogue in between food
regulators and pharma Nutraceutical companies. Public can also join the dialogue.
This time we got nomination from 12 categories and finally given award to exporters,
importers, manufacturers, sales & distributors, pharmacovigilance, consultants, young
achievers, youngest exporters, academicians and lifetime achievement.

Mueller Marg, New Delhi, India. The nominations were received from Tanzania, Nigeria,
