Globalized Standards Examples

1. Connecting Anchor Standard 10: Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to
make art. Enduring Understanding: Through art-making, people make meaning by investigating and
developing awareness of perceptions, knowledge, and experiences. Esential Question: How does
engaging in creating art enrich peoples lives? How does making art attune people to their
surroundings? How do people contribute to awareness and understanding of their lives and the lives of
their communities through art making?

2. Integration of Global Education:


Synthesize VA Cn10.1.111a-Synthesize knowledge of social, cultural, historical, and
personal life with art-making approaches to create meaningful works of art or design
Students will be able to investigate through research images of various aspects of a particular
country and culture then complete a self portrait reflecting both personal and empathetic aspects
of their research with another culture.

3. Specific Lesson Plan Modifications for Global Competencies:
Students will use a variety of sources and images to investigate the world, and recognize
perspectivesothers and their own.
Students will create their own original artwork integrating aspects from another culture, either
their own or something they have researched and identified with.
Students will communicate ideas effectively through having dialogue exchange with students
from a global classroom doing a similar project or exchanging feedback on their artwork
Students may also analyze and comment on works of art from another country
Students may participate in a SDG take actioncomponent such as gender equality with
empowerment of girls and women, or participating in the memory project drawing portraits of
children around the world suffering abuse, loss

4. Informal Outcomes:
Students will post their completed project to online classroom blog Students in classroom from
another country will comment on and critique or comment on the work.
Students will be able to recognize new perspectives, through their own research, dialogue with
other students, and reflecting on feedback received from students from other countries/cultures.

historical context to deepen understanding.
VA: Cn11.1.1a-(Proficient): Describe how knowledge of culture, traditions, and
history may influence personal responses to art-making
VA.Cn11.1.111a:(Advanced): Appraise the impact of an artist or a group of artists
on the beliefs, values, and behaviors of a society
2. Integration of Global Education:
Students will examine through many different sources, articles, and consideration
of how sources and media may influence the perception of a particular culture
(investigating the world)
Students will begin to identify their own perspectives as compared to others and
develop the skill of neutrally considering all sides of issues
Students will be able to communicate their ideas considering the way that they
may communicate differently and more sensitively within a global community,
looking at issues of etiquette and effective communication with english as second
language speakers (not using American slang, abbreviations IDK, LMK, etc or
colloquialisms making exchange more difficult)
Students will consider a take action community service goal that serves the local
community as well as national or global collaboration.

3. Specific Lesson Plan Modifications for Global Competencies:


Students will consider how the influence of art of different cultures may have
influenced the work of major European artists, influencing major shifts in art
styles or movements in(Western art) history. For example, how did Japanese
Ukiyo-e printmaking have an effect on the style of Van Gogh? How did African
Sculpture influence major shifts in the work of Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh,
Braque and lead toward major shifts in art and new art movements?
Students will consider how investigating the world can influence personal
responses to art-making, and investigate historical contexts to better understand
these influences on art history and artists and major movements of the past.
Students will research contemporary artists who are influenced by cultures of the
past
Students will research artists who effect change locally, nationally, or globally by
raising awareness toward issues.

4. Informal Outcomes:
Students will identify contemporary artists who are influenced by other cultures
Students will identify artists who effect change within their local, national, or
global community
Students will write a reflection on 21st century skills and how having these skills
may influence how they intepret artwork or how they create their own artwork.
Students will reflect on how their own work references aspects of local, national,
or global influences and issues, and are more aware of their own perspectives and
influences.
