Description: World Geography is a multicultural, cross-disciplinary course designed to provide an accurate


and complete view of the ever changing world of which we are all a part. The course emphasizes physical
geography (e.g., climate, earth processes, etc.) and human geography (e.g., world cultures, religions,
beliefs, customs, economics development, etc.). Significant importance is placed on cultural understanding,
map locations, critical thinking issues, usage of the internet in research, and problem solving skills.

Unit Two: The U.S. and Canada
Unit Three: Middle and South America
Unit Four: Europe
Unit Five: Middle East/ Northern Africa
Unit Six: Africa
Unit Seven: Asia

Expectations for Student Learning:


1. Communicate Effectively Through Various Methods of Expressions.
2. Solve Problems Through Reasoning and Critical Thinking.
3. Access, Analyze and Apply Information Effectively.
4. Express and Appreciate the Creative Process.

Homework: Students will be expected to read regularly, check the webpage, complete some assignments
at home and work on long term projects.

Teaching Strategies:
Cooperative learning groups; Socratic Seminar, critical thinking activities, technology
enhancement of lecture/activities, vocabulary within units, research, assessments, class
presentations; writing assignments; graphic organizers

Grading Policy
The following percentage weight will determine the final grade.
45% Test and major assignments (including notebook check)
20% Quizzes
15% Minor Assignments (daily, homework, etc.)
20% Final Exam (this is a one-semester course)

Final Exam Exemption Policy:


90 and above w/ no more than 3 days per absent per semester
85 and above w/ no more than 2 days absent per semester
80 w/no more than 1 day absent per semester

ALL TESTS AND QUIZZES MAY BE TAKEN AGAIN. It is not usually the same test or quiz, but I
believe this is essential in standards-based learning which is about mastery of the standards.
Students must set up a time OUTSIDE of regular class time to do this, after showing me what you
have done to study for the quiz or test. (Notecards, typed notes, etc.) I average the two grades
together.

CLASSROOM RULES
THE Five Ps

Prompt Be on time. Enter the classroom quietly and go to your assigned seat. Turn in
assignments on time. Begin the warmup without being asked.
Prepared Bring all materials to class, ready to use, every day. Be sure your pencil is
sharpened. Read the activities and essential question so you know what to expect.
Do not get your phone out and get distracted.
Productive MAXIMIZE learning time by remaining on task, following directions, and remaining seated
unless youre been given permission to get up; Always stay with your group or partner.
Polite Be nice or neutral to everyone. No swearing, teasing, talking back, or bullying will
be allowed. Respect yourself , your classmates, and the classroom. Keep your
hands, feet and objects to yourself. If you dont own it, dont touch it.
Patient Wait patiently and calmly for your turn. Dont complain. Listen to the teacher, your
classmates, and any intercom announcements. Wait until directions are finished before
you ask questions.

Consequences
First time: Warning
Second time: Detention (30 minutes before or after school)
Third Time: Detention and Phone Call Home
Fourth Time: Office Referral
