Graduate Certificate in TESOL



The 18-unit program of study has been structured to meet the needs of those individuals who
desire formal course preparation and training as classroom teachers of English as a Second
Language, but who do not require an M.A. Degree.

To receive the Graduate Certificate in TESOL, students must complete the following
coursework:


Ling 101 Introduction to Linguistics...................................................................... 3 units

Ling 107 Patterns of English .................................................................................. 3 units

LLD 270 Second Language Acquisition ................................................................ 3 units

LLD 271 Intercultural Communication & Second Language Acquisition........... 3 units

LLD 280 Methods and Materials for TESOL ......................................................... 3 units

LLD 283 Curriculum & Assessment....................................................................... 3 units


Three units (3) are transferable into the program. International students from countries where
the official language is not English must have a TOEFL score of 90 on the IBT (or 577 PBT, or 233
on the computer-based test). Students must maintain a 3.0 minimum G.P.A. throughout the
program.
