Priortocommencementonsitethedepthandlocationofallexistingsewerswillbeconfirmedand

recordthecurrentcondition.
Allfoundationswilldesigntopreventloadstransferringontothesewers,duetotheproximityofthe
150mmsewertotheproposedhousingitisatrisk.Asproposedplotsarelocated65mawayforthe
sewerandthefoundingdepthsareatasimilarleveltotheinvertofthesewer,thereisnoriskof
loadingthesewer.SeefoundationscheduleinAppendixB.
The450mmsewersitsdirectlybeneaththesiteaccessroadsotheconstructionoftheroadneedsto
beconsidered.SeeAppendixCLongsectionshowingproposedroadandsewersalongwithexisting
sewer.ThesectionofsewertohavearoadconstructedaboveitrunsfromUU6508(EGL46.10,
ProposedCL46.40,IL43.40)toUU6401(EGL45.034,PCL45.76,IL43.13),alongthisentirelengththe
proposedfinishedroadlevelisabovethecurrentgroundlevelthusincreasingcovertothepipeand
ensuringthatexcavationabovethepipeislimited.
Theproposedroadconstructionisgenerally600mmbutthiscouldincreaseto900mm,sothis
excavationfortheroadcappinglayerwillbeinexcessof2.5mabovethesewer.Intermofprocess
thetopsoilwillberemovedandtheroadfootprintexcavatedtoformationlevelwhereuponitwill
bebackfilledwithsuitablecrushedstoneorconcrete,thusprotectingtheexistingsewer.
Installationofproposedsewerstheproposedsewersdonotunderminetheexistingnetworkand
thereforeriskoflateralmovementislimited,irrespectivethiscorrectuseoftrenchsupportsand
shoringwouldpreventthisforoccurring.
Methodstatementandriskassessmentforinstallationofnewsewersandcrossingof
theexistingsewers;
AppendixDcontainsthecontractorsriskassessmentfortheinstallationofnewsewersdiscussing
themethodsforconnectingontoandcrossingtheexistingnetwork.
WithregardtotheexistingnetworkUnitedUtilitiesstandardmethodswillbeadopted,theseareas
follows:
Demolition,piling,tunnelingoranyotherconstructiontechniquewhichinducessignificantvibration
(notexceedingapeakparticlevelocityof5mm/s)shallbepermittedupto10metresawayfromthe
Pipeline(s).PermissionwillbegrantedbyUUprovidedthatthePromoterhasaccuratelyestablished
thepositionofthePipeline(s)andthishasbeenverifiedbyUUandawrittenstatementofthe
precautionstobetakentoensurethesafetyofthePipeline(s)hasbeensubmittedbythePromoter
andreceivedandconsentedtobyUUpriortoworksbeingundertaken.
Shoulddemolition,piling,tunnelingoranyotherconstructiontechniquewhichinducessignificant
vibrationbeproposedwithin3.510metresofthePipeline(s)thisshallbesubjecttoseismic
monitoringinordertopreventdamagetothePipeline(s).ThePromotershallaccuratelyestablishthe
positionofthePipeline(s).SeismographreadingsshallbetakenbythePromoter'sspecialist
organisationonthelineofthePipelineatlocationstobeagreedwithUU.Vibrationmonitoringshall
bedoneunderthesupervisionofaspecialistorganisationwhichhassignificantexperienceofsimilar
monitoringwork.TheidentityofthespecialistorganisationshallbeproposedbythePromoterand
approvedbyUU.Thisapprovalshouldnotbeunreasonablywithheldordelayed.Thecostofthe
seismicmonitoringshallbebornebythePromoter.Vibrationshallbemeasuredintermsofpeak
particlevelocity(PPV)andthePromotershallemploysuitablemethodsofconstructionincarrying
outitsworkssuchthatthePPVdoesnotexceed5mm/s.IfthemeasuredPPVdoesexceed5mm/s
thenworkshallceaseimmediatelyandareviewofthemonitoringdatashallbeundertakenbetween
thePromoterandUUEngineeringstaff.IfnecessaryUUshallnotifythePromoterofanyreasonable
mitigationmeasurestoprotectthePipeline(s)thatitrequiresthePromotertocarryout.The
Promotershallcomplywiththesereasonablemitigationmeasuresincarryingoutitsworks.Awritten
statementoftheprecautionstobetakentoensurethesafetyofthePipeline(s)shallbesubmittedby
thePromoterandreceivedandapprovedbyUUpriortoworksbeingundertaken.
Movementofvehiclesandplantwithatotalweightexceeding6tonnesacrosstheunprotected
Pipelineisforbidden.Therepetitivemovementofvehiclesorplantofanyweightoverthe
unprotectedPipelineinthesamepositionisforbidden.Wheretemporaryorpermanentaccessis
required,thePromotermustconsultwithUUpriortogainingaccess.
EachproposedtemporarycrossingpointofaPipelineshallbeconsideredonanindividualbasis.The
PromotershallsubmitthedesignoftheproposedcrossingpointtoUUforacceptance.Workto
constructthetemporarycrossingpointshallnotcommencewithoutpriorwrittenconsentfromUU.
ThePromotershalldesignanytemporarycrossingpointsuchthattheloadfromanyvehicleorany
itemofconstructionplantthatwillusethecrossingpointcreatesasuitablyfactoredbearingpressure
ofnotmorethan8.5kN/m2atthecrownoftheUUPipeline.(N.B.Thisloadisapproximately
equivalenttotheloadingonaPipelinewith900mmofcoverwhena6tonneexcavatorcrossesabove
it.)Inordertoachievethis,thePromotermayusesubstantialtimberbaulks,reinforcedconcrete
slabsorproprietarygroundprotectionsystems(e.g.EveTrakway).Whereitisnotpossibleto
distributethesurchargeloadfromtheplanttolessthan8.5kN/m2atthecrownofthePipeline,then
thedesignofthetemporarycrossingpointshallconsistofasuspendedcrossingwhichbridgesover
thePipeline.
TemporarycrossingpointsshallonlybeusedtoallowvehiclesandplanttotraverseacrossaPipeline.
Temporarycrossingpointsarenottobeusedasworkingplatformsforconstructionplant.Plantshall
notbeallowedtooperateaboveaUUPipelineunlessspecificwrittenconsentisgivenbyUU.Any
requestbyaPromoterforthemtositeworkingplantaboveaUUPipelinemustdemonstratethatthe
platformwhichtheirplantistobesitedonhasbeendesignedasaworkingplatformandwillensure
thatthemaximumsurchargeloadfromthatplantisdistributedtolessthan8.5kN/m2atthecrown
ofthePipeline,orbridgesoverthePipeline.
Allpartsofatemporarycrossingpointmustberemovedwhentheworkiscomplete,unlesswritten
consentisobtainedfromUUforthecrossingtobeleftinplace.Thedesignandconstructionofthe
temporarycrossingpointshallbesuchthatitpermitsforitsremoval(andthereinstatementofthe
groundbeneathit)withoutexposingthePipelinetoundueloading,vibrationorrisk
PondConstruction;
Theproposedpondistobeconstructedadjacenttotheexisting450mmcombinedsewer,thepond
islocatedoutsideoftheUnitedUtilitiessewereasementandisgenerallybetween5m(minimum)
and10mtotheeastofthesewer.Thebedlevelofthepondisbetween41.863mAODand42.163m
AOD,theinvertofthesewer42.51mAOD(worstcase).Theedgeofthepondwillbesituatedsome
5mfromthesewer,thedeepestbedpointwillbesome11mfromthesewer,themaximumlevel
differenceis0.68mgivingagradientof1:16whichisstableisallsoilconditions.
Thepondwillbeformerbyremovingthetopsoil,excavatingthesubsoilandthenliningthebasin
withpuddleclaytoformanimpermeablelining.Thesidesofthepondsaretobebatteredat1:3to
ensureslopestability.
Uponreviewingtheproximityofthepondtothesewerandtherelativeinvertlevels,itisclearthat
thesewerhighlyunlikelytobeimpactedbytheconstructionofthepond.Howevertoensurethat
thereisnochanceofthesewerbeingimpactedduringtheconstructionphase,insitugeotechnical
testingwouldbeundertakentoensureslopestabilitycanbeensuredandifnecessarysheetpiling
willbeinstalled.GeotechnicalreviewanddetaileddesigntobeagreedwithUnitedUtilitiespriorto
construction.
