AfterresizingtheHDTVdesktop,thenewcustomresolutioncreatedisnowaddedtothe
listofavailableresolutionsforthatdisplay,andalsoaddedtotheresolutionlistwithin
thegameorapplication.
InRelease190andlaterdrivers,themethodforresizingtheHDTVdesktophaschanged
toprovidebetterimagequalitywhenapplyingunderscan.Thismethodresultsinanew
customresolutionbeingcreatedwhichneedstobeselectedfromgamesorapplications
toapplytheresizing.
Intheexampledisplayedinthefollowingscreenshot,theunderscanhascreatedanew
resolution(1216x682).Althoughthisresolutionlooksdifferent,itisstillinHDformat.
Remembertoselectthisresolutioninyourgameorotherapplicationinordertotake
advantageofit.

InHybridsavepowermode,aftertransitioningtotheintegratedgraphics,theNVIDIA
driverdisablestheHDaudiocontroller.TheNVIDIAinstallerwillnotshowtheHD
audiodriveroptioniftheHDaudioisdisabled.
Solution
Beforeinstallingthenewdriver,enabletheHDaudiodevicethroughtheWindows
DeviceManager.ThiswillallowtheNVIDIAinstallertodetectHDaudioandinstallthe
HDaudiodriver.
Changing the Primary Display Across SLI GPUs Takes Longer

than Expected
Issue
OnanSLIsystem,switchingtheprimary(orSLIfocus)displaywheneachdisplayinthe
SLIgroupisconnectedtoadifferentGPUtakeslongerthanexpected.
Explanation
OnanSLIsystemwitheachSLIGPUdrivingadisplay,thedisplayconnectedtotheslave
GPUistheprimarydisplay(alsotheSLIfocusdisplay).Inordertoswitchtheprimary
displaytotheoneconnectedtotheotherGPU,themasterandslaveGPUconfiguration
mustalsoswitch.InordertoreassignwhichGPUisthemasterandwhichistheslave,
thedrivermustbereloaded.Ittheprocessofreloadingthedriverthattakesthe
additionaltime.

Understanding the DirectX Version Shown in the NVIDIA

System Information Window
TheSystemInformationwindowaccessedbyclickingSystemInformationatthebottom
leftcorneroftheNVIDIAControlPanelprovidestechnicalinformationaboutthe
NVIDIAgraphicscardsanddriverinstalledinthesystem.
ItalsoprovidesinformationabouttheWindowsversionaswellastheDirectXversion
thatisinstalled.
However,inordertousetheversionofDirectXreportedintheSystemInformation
window,theNVIDIAGPUandgraphicsdrivermustalsosupportthatDirectXversion.
Forexample,driverversion197.45andWindowsVista(withavailablepatch)support
DirectX11.ButonlyNVIDIAgraphicscardsbasedontheFermiarchitecturereleasedin
2010supportDirectX11.Soyoursystemmusthaveoneofthesecardsinstalledinorder
totakeadvantageofDirectX11performance.
Using HDMI/DisplayPort Audio with Displays that have a High

Native Resolution
TouseHDMI/DisplayPortaudiowithsomedisplaysthathaveanativeresolutionhigherthan
1920x1080,youmustsetthedisplaytoalowerHDresolution.
SomeHDMITVshaveanativeresolutionthatexceedsthemaximumsupportedHD
mode.Forexample,TVswithanativeresolutionof1920x1200exceedthemaximum
supportedHDmodeof1920x1080.
Applyingthisnativemoderesultsindisplayoverscanwhichcannotberesizedusingthe
NVIDIAControlPanelsincethemodeisnotanHDmode.
Toavoidthissituationandprovideabetteruserexperience,thedrivertreatscertainTVs
suchastheViewsonicVX2835wmandtheWestinghouseLVM37w3asaDVImonitor
whenapplyingthenativemode.BecausethedriverdoesnottreattheTVasanHDMIin
thiscase,theHDMIaudioisnotused.

Using HDMI/DisplayPort Displays that do not Support Audio

SomeHDMI/DisplayPortdisplaysdonotsupportaudio,orhaveissueswithcurrentNVIDIA
graphicscards.
TheNVIDIAdriverattemptstoidentifysuchdisplaysandautomaticallydisablesthe
audio.Forexample,theNVIDIAdriverdisablesHMDIaudioforallPhilipsHDMITVs,
asthesehavebeenidentifiedashavingissueswithcurrentNVIDIAgraphicscards.
Theremaybecaseswhereeitherthedriverdisablesaudioeventhoughthereisno
problem,ordoesnotdisabletheaudiowheninfacttheaudiodoesnotwork.The
followingsectionsdescribethesesituationsandprovidesguidanceforhandlingthem.
Corrupted video and no audio
Thedriverhasnotdisabledaudioandthedisplaysaudiosignalisincompatiblewiththe
graphicscard,causingvideocorruption.
Withadifferentdisplayconnectedinordertoestablishvideo,disableaudioforthe
HDMIdisplayusingtheNVIDIAControlPanel>ChangeResolutionpage.Fromthe
connectorlist,selectHDMIHDTV(AudioDisabled).
Video but no audio

ChecktheconnectorlistontheNVIDIAControlPanel>ChangeResolutionpage.
IfHDMIHDTV(AudioDisabled)isselectedandyouwanttotestwhetheryour
HDMIaudiodoes,infact,work,thenselectHDMIHDTV(AudioEnabled)andthe
driverwillpromptyouwithinstructionsfortestingHDMIaudiowiththedisplay.
IfHDMIHDTV(AudioEnabled)isselected,thenthedriverhasnotsuccessfully
detectedthatanincompatibledisplayisconnected.
Futuredriveversionswillproperlyidentifysuchdisplaysanddisableaudio.
IfthereisnoHDMIconnectoroptionintheNVIDIAControlPanel>Change
Resolutionpage,thedisplaydoesnotsupportaudioandhasproperlyreportedthisto
theNVIDIAdriver.

Using HDMI/DisplayPort Audio in Dualview or Clone Mode

InamultidisplayconfigurationwherebothHDMI/DisplayPortaudioportsareenabled,

Flat Panel Scaling Controls are Non-functional for Some TV

Modes for Some Displays
TheNVIDIAControlPanelflatpanelscalingcontrolsontheAdjustDesktopSize&
PositionpagearenotintendedtobeusedforTVmodes,andnormallythecontrolsare
notavailableforTVorHDTVdisplays.
However,MicrosoftrequiresthatcertainTV/HDTVmodesbeavailableforalldigital
displays,includingDVIandHDMI,eveniftheyarenotHDTV.
WhiletheNVIDIAflatpanelscalingcontrolsareavailableforthosedisplays,theywill
notbefunctionalfortheTVmodesthatappearincompliancewiththeMicrosoft
