POP COMPOSITION WHERE TO START?

1. Brain storming or mind mapping as a starting point. You

could do this for figuring out what your song might be about,
which could also help in developing lyrics.
2. Structuring your song. The most basic form in Pop Music
is: Verse Chorus Verse Chorus.
3. Developing a chord progression. Decide on a key and
begin mapping out a chord pattern for each section in your
song. You could use Hook Pad to assist you with this.
4. Play your instrument! From here you might develop a
catchy riff (a short repetitive motif), which could be used as
the basis for your composition. You might even develop
ideas for a melody line.
5. Decide on the instrumentation. What style of pop song are
you trying to achieve here? Which instruments would best
suit your ideas?

Dont forget to take note of what you have done this lesson as it
will need to be included in your Composition Journal.
