Joko Widodo
When he first ran for the office of mayor of Surakarta, many doubted the ability of a man who had
worked as a property and furniture businessman. However, after a year in office Jokowi had successfully led
many progressive breakthroughs which became widely praised nationally. One academic research shows that
his leadership style includes an inter-actional relationship with the people of Solo, through which he is able to
induce people's strong faith to him. He adopted the development framework of European cities (which he
frequently traveled to as a businessman) into his own city of Surakarta.
Jokowi has been an active and high-profile governor of Jakarta. He has followed the practice (known
as blusukan) of regularly arranging well-publicized visits to local communities, often in quite poor areas, across
Jakarta (see below). His broad approach is widely said to reflect the similar, successful style of administration
that he adopted while mayor of Surakarta between 2005 and 2007. His inner circle of advisers in Jakarta is
reported to include people such as FX Hadi 'Rudy' Rudyatmo, Sumartono Hadinoto, and Anggit Nugroho who
were colleagues while he was mayor of Surakarta as well as Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama, his current deputy
as governor of Jakarta.
On March 14, 2014, Jokowi said to the press that he is ready to run for president in the Indonesian
presidential election, 2014, following his official nomination by the Indonesian Democratic Party.

Prabowo Subianto
Prabowo Subianto (born 17 October 1951) is an Indonesian businessman, politician and
former Lieutenant General in the Indonesian National Armed Forces. In the Indonesian presidential election,
2009 he ran for the vice-presidency as part of Megawati Sukarnoputri's campaign for president. In November
2011, Prabowo announced his intention to run for president in the next Indonesian presidential election,
2014. Prabowo is son of Sumitro Djojohadikusumo, an Indonesian economist. Prabowo also the former husband
of Siti Hediati "Titiek" Suharto, the late President Suharto's daughter.
During he was in military career, he had many achievement and experiences. He had successed in many
cases, such as Mendupa redemption and raising flag of Indonesia on top everest.
After leaving the military, Prabowo joined his brother Hashim Djojohadikusumo's business. He
purchased Kiani Kertas, a paper pulp and plantation company based in Mangkajang, East Kalimantan.[39] Prior
to Prabowo's purchase, Kiani was owned by Bob Hasan, a businessman close to former Presiden Suharto.[39]
Prabowo rebranded Kiani Kertas to Kertas Nusantara. Today, Prabowo's Nusantara Group controls 27
companies in Indonesia and abroad. Prabowo's companies includes Nusantara Energy (oil and natural gas, coal),
Tidar Kerinci Agung (palm oil plantations) and Jaladri Nusantara (fishery industry).
Prabowo was the wealthiest presidential candidate in the 2009 election, with ownership of Rp 1.5 trillion
(about US$ 150 million) and US$ 7.5 million.
From 2004-until now Prabowo had been trying to become president. In election 2004 and 2009 he was
failed to became president. In March 2012, the Great Indonesia Movement Party named Prabowo their 2014
presidential candidate. As of then, the party's slogan was changed to Gerindra Menang Prabowo
Presiden (Gerindra Wins, Prabowo Becomes President)
According to numerous quick counts after the April 9 legislative election, Gerinda came in third place,
positioning Prabowo as one of two main presidential candidates for the election to be held July 9, the other
being Jakarta governor, Joko Widodo.
