BACKGROUND

The reason why I come out with this project is to have skill in setting out a building.

1.1 Back ground of the project

The reason why I come out with this project to have knowledge in building/setting out in
the building construction and have skills in building a retaining wall were by a retain is
the wall building to protect lose soil from fall

1.2 Problem statement

The soil around the working place/sited is always collapsing due to the nature of the
ground. Much as there are a number of different types of retaining wall types available in
the construction industry, their design is relatively expensive that the poor people/
trainees in my community may not be able to afford. Meaning that there is a need to
design a simple retaining wall which is easy to construct and using local materials

1.3 Purpose of the project study

The purpose of the design is to enable low income earners to be able to use the local
available material to construct walls, retaining walls.

1.4 Objective of the design project Study

In order to realise the purpose/end results of this design study project, the following
objective may be fulfilled.

1.4 Importance of the study

To a trainer to get skills of leveling
Space for workshop practice
Adding into reference bank at library
Cost of labour

6
1.5 Delimitations
i. Share the available tools
ii. Efficient use of material
iii. Reporting early

1.5 Objectives
Leveling skills

At the end of the project, to have leveled ground will be formed which construction of
solid ground fallen.

1.6 Work plan

Activities
Site clearance
Cutting and filling
Compaction
Retaining wall
Placing of hardcore
Blinding
Batching
Mixing
Transport
Over site concrete
Compaction

1.7 Limitations
Weather condition
Material shortage
Time for project work
Shortage of tool and equipment

CHAPTER TWO

2.0 METHODOLOGY

7
2.1 Design specifications
This specifies the shape, size, finisher and material for the study designed

2.2 Actualization of the product

This is the removal of unwanted objects like grass, trees, and larking in order for the
workmen and working tool work get lost.

Tools used:
Hoe
Slasher
Panga
Wheel barrow
Pit axe
Rake

This is also protect the works tools from wildlife habitats like snakes and others

Cutting and filling

This is the leveling of the ground excavating soil from the high level and filling the
excavated soil in the lower part of the site in order

1.4.1 Carry out need

1.4.2 Write product design specification

1.4.3 Generate candidate product solutions

1.4.4 Make the detailed design scheme for the chosen product

1.4.5 Process the product according to the detailed schemes

1.5 Work Plan for the project study

Compaction is the process of removing air avoid with concrete to achieve maximum.

Tools used
Romper
Wheel Barrow
Spade
Machine
1. Placing of hardcore. Is the process of spreading concrete on the site. This is done because
some part of the site is made of ground and hardcore is placed to hold the concrete and to
avoid depression and shrinkage of the soil. This is done by hands and string to get an equal
level.
2. Blinding
This is a layer of sand placed to fill t packets of the hardcore and to cover the shaper hardcore
to avoid it from piercing the over site concrete.

Tools used

i. Spade
ii. Hoe
iii. Wheel barrow

3. Batching

9
This is the process of measuring the consistency of concrete.

Batching may be carried out in two ways;

By weight: i s defined as the quantity of matter in the body.

By volume: Is defined as a space occupied by object.

Tools used.

Spade
Hoe
Wheel Barrow

4. Mixing.

Is addition of different substance of material to from one body

The requirement needed for mixing can be hand or by machine.

Material used.

Cement
Sand
Aggregate
With sufficient amount of water.

5. Transportation

After mixing the concrete or motor is transported from the mixture to the formed work
concrete. Can be transported in various ways as follow.

i. Through wheel barrow

ii. Through damper
iii. Through pipeline.

Over sites concrete

This is laying of concrete to get a firm floor.

10
i. Tools used
ii. Spirit level
iii. Trovel
iv. Spade

2.3 Working drawing

Proposed workshop

Curing

Is the treatment given to a newly laid concrete slab

Recommendation

Since the concrete laid as 1:3:6 i.e. part of the cement, 3 part of sand and 6 part of a coarse
aggregator should be made 1:2:4 for a strong mix and easy compaction for the solid flour to last
for a long time.
