You have one year to

change your outlook and

MBA Programme
2010
One year. And 50 great years to celebrate.

This year is an important milestone for INSEAD

as we celebrate half a century of success.

Fifty years ago, INSEAD pioneered the ten-

month MBA – and we’re still innovating across
all our programmes, not to mention our cutting-
edge research. This anniversary year, the
school will bring together over 1,000 degree
candidates and more than 9,000 executives
from the world’s leading companies – across
two equal-status campuses on two continents.

We’ve come a long way, growing globally

alongside business itself. Since settling in Asia
at the turn of the millennium, we’ve added two
new centres in the Middle East and developed
strategic alliances in the USA and China.
Meanwhile, our alumni network has grown
to connect nearly 40,000 exceptional people
in 160 countries. We truly are establishing
ourselves as The Business School for the World.

Now, more than ever, the world needs

exceptional business leaders capable of
challenging conventional thinking, managers
with transcultural insights, creative problem-
solvers trained through exposure to diverse
viewpoints…people like INSEAD MBA
graduates.

Our alumni say that coming to INSEAD had

a positive impact on their lives and that the
school’s unique combination of diversity,
innovation and entrepreneurship has enabled
them to make an impact on the world.
Long may this continue into INSEAD’s future.

Yet there is one area where our expectations

are well and truly surpassed year after year.
And that’s the participants themselves. While
diversity is our trademark, the sheer
excellence of our intake is what drives the Jake Cohen
programme on to ever greater success. Dean of the MBA Programme

And our output is even more impressive than

our intake. INSEAD participants graduate with
even more confidence, adaptability,
resourcefulness and international sensitivity
than when they arrived. No wonder they obtain
posts in a wider selection of countries and
sectors than the graduates of any other leading
business school.

One year.
One school.
Two campuses.

A picturesque French town, steeped in history.

A thriving city-state, perhaps the world’s most truly
multicultural city. It’s hardly surprising that most
MBA participants choose to spend time in both
Fontainebleau and Singapore.

Fontainebleau, a 45-minute train journey from Paris

is a traditional centre for shopping, culture and dining.
Many participants share a country house or château
on the edge of the picturesque Fontainebleau forest.

Singapore, Asia’s vibrant commercial and high-tech hub,

is prosperous and efficient. Most participants live
in modern condominiums with high-rise city views.
With the addition of a new MBA ‘section’ in 2009,
the campus is still growing – in response to demand
from applicants and recruiters alike.

What both locations have in common is a state-of-the-art

INSEAD campus. It’s strange, but true: switching campus
feels like coming home. The same unique atmosphere,
the same smooth-running operations, the same cutting-
edge technology… in fact, the technology enables such
seamless communication between the two campuses
that they sometimes feel more like one.

The Wharton exchange adds even more diversity

to the mix. Participants who choose this option can live
and study in Europe, Asia and North America during
their year at INSEAD. In today’s inter-connected global
economy, the benefits of soaking up such varied
influences are immense.

One year.
Many dimensions
of excellence.

INSEAD is about so much more than diversity

and international reach. Above all, it’s about setting
the highest standards in everything we do.

The excellence of our faculty needs no introduction.

Their research has always been acclaimed as
cutting-edge. And now acclaim has turned into
awards. INSEAD professors regularly sweep the
board in Europe’s annual case-study prizes.

Our MBA standards are correspondingly high.

We require not only academic excellence, but also
professional experience, leadership potential and
aptitude in languages. The calibre of our regular
recruiters and success of our alumni simply confirm
these world-class credentials.

Our reputation is further reinforced by our position

as one of the world’s largest providers of Executive
Education. Our small, elite Executive MBA and PhD
programmes are also among the world’s best.

Last but not least, the quality of our alliances says as

much about us as our own achievements. INSEAD was,
for example, the first official education partner of
The World Economic Forum, and we also work closely
with organisations such as the OECD. Recently, the
school was selected as a partner to the CFA Institute
and honours the commitment of providing CFA
approved ethical and professional standards in our
MBA programme. The school’s influence thus reaches
far beyond the classroom to the front line of global
business, policy and not-for-profit partnerships.

One year.
Unparalleled
diversity.

People say that ‘Diversity’ is the ‘D’ in INSEAD.

the participants. In study groups of five to six, no more

everyone is a minority.

Participants
The mix of cultures and personalities is matched
by a mix of educational and professional backgrounds.
Both the Fontainebleau and Singapore campuses
have an enriching energy, powered by diverse outlooks
and opinions.

INSEAD’s diversity has long-term benefits.

and thoroughly prepare participants for a career

Class sessions in 10 months clear focus on international markets and settings.

75
During one year, participants at INSEAD have a similar
number of course hours as those attending most two-year
MBA programmes. This is achieved by focusing on study
five days a week and avoiding ‘down-time’ during
the programme.
Electives offered
across both campuses The first few periods are based on a structured series
of 13 core courses. These courses cover accounting,
finance, statistics, strategy, marketing, operations
management and organisational behaviour. Other
courses focus on the environment in which business
takes place. Subjects such as economics and political
analysis help participants understand the drivers
of change that will affect their future careers.

The second half of the programme is customisable.

Participants take more than 10 electives, creating
a mix of topics that will support their educational and
professional goals. They can either pursue a generalist
path toward management or specialise in a particular
functional area. They may also create concentrations
in specific areas, such as finance or entrepreneurship.

Finally, an innovative new elective ‘capstone course’,

introduced in 2010, completes the intense one-year
experience and ties together, through practical
application, the various disciplines studied.

life-long networks.

Life outside the INSEAD classroom is as stimulating as

within. The many clubs include Entrepreneurship, Private
Equity, Women in Business, International Development
(a Net Impact Chapter) and Energy – which work with
research centres to organise a whole calendar of events.
The Global Leaders Series of talks by prominent
international business leaders is another, regular,
cross-campus highlight.

National Weeks are a social tradition at INSEAD.

Organised by participants and their partners, they
showcase a country’s culture, business, music, food
and pastimes to colourful effect. And how many other
business schools offer two annual balls on two continents?

Sporting facilities on both campuses are excellent.

Tennis, squash, swimming, walking, rock climbing and
horse riding are all on the doorstep of the Fontainebleau
campus. In Singapore, meanwhile, participants enjoy the
year-round sunshine and a vast array of water sports.

INSEAD also offers a particular welcome to families.

Over 25% of participants are joined by their partners for
the duration of the programme. The highly active INSEAD
Partners Club organises a range of events for those with
and without children – from cultural outings to career-
related workshops.

The reason the network is so effective is that so many

organise reunions or interview MBA candidates in their
