1. Definition of confinement lady

1.1. They are women (usually quite elderly) known to be experienced with taking special care of
newborn babies and their mothers immediately after births. Some may call them confinement
nannies or "pui yuet" in Cantonese which means "companion for the month". They will normally
adhere to the Chinese traditional confinement practices

2. Primary jobs of confinement nannies/ladies

2.1. help the new mother with the care of her baby in order to ease her transition process from a
carefree childless woman to a mother
2.2. cook nutritious confinement dishes to revive the health of the new mother as well as tend to
some household chores related to the care of the baby such as washing the babys clothes and
milk bottles.

3. Things to take note before making decisions

3.1. Confinement lady:

3.1.1 do they support breast feeding, how are their cooking, cleanliness and hygiene, attitude.
WORD OF MOUTH IS THE BEST BET!

3.2. Confinement centre:

3.2.1 bed and board for mummy and baby (check if youll get a private or shared room);
3.2.2 support staff (usually a confinement lady, nurse or midwife) to help care for baby 24 hours a
day
3.2.3 laundry service
3.2.4 all meals, drinks and snacks, including special confinement fare, herbal soups and drinks as
well as healthy snacks
3.2.5 check if the package includes confinement products such as dry shampoo and herbs, baby
products such as nappies, nappy cream and baby shampoo used during your stay; extras such
as parenting classes or facials
3.2.6 check whether do they support breastfeeding (because some encourage to go with milk
powder)
3.2.7 VISITING THE CENTRE BEFOREHAND IS THE BEST BET!

4. Pricing

4.1. Price for CL: KL area RM 4000 5000 (double for CNY or twins); Outstation like Ipoh about
RM3000 RM 4000 deposit of about Rm1000 + remainder + ang pau or lai tse (token
sum given at the end of the month as a gesture of appreciation) maybe RM150 - 300
 4.2. Price for CC: ABOVE RM 5000 only deposit and balance. Balance done usually within a
week after start living inside/sometimes done both during and after 2 weeks of stay.
