4.1 Digital Equity

Candidates model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and
resources and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers. (PSC 4.1/ISTE 5a)

The attached artifact is a strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis for
Collins Hill High School. The assignment required the candidate to examine the school's
technology integration and the plans in place. When completing this assignment I had to
collaborate with the schools LSTC, teachers, and administration to determine what actions
needed to be made to ensure that proper technology integration is being made. The SWOT
analysis focuses on the eight essential conditions that are put forth by the ISTE. I also completed
an ISTE Lead and Transform Diagnostic tool to help gather data to help inform me on what can
be done to improve the school.

This artifact shows my mastery of standard 4.1 by showing my ability to model and promote
strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources and technology-related
best practices for all students and teachers. In the SWOT analysis I had to evaluate the digital
equity at Collins Hill High School. I recognized the strength that CHHS possesses but then also
pointed out the weakness that we possess. I researched digital equity and provided resources and
recommendations for the school to improve their digital equity for low SES students, all genders,
and teachers at the school.

From this experience I learned that digital equity can be more than just access to tools. Digital
equity can also include teachers dispositions towards teaching with technology tools. I also
learned that females face a large amount of digital inequity in the field of technology and STEM.
Schools should focus on their access to digital tools at school and at home. If I could do this
experience again I would try to get more numbers on the digital access on Collins Hill students
outside of school. This information could help form a plan to help improve the access for
students outside the walls of the school.

This experience impacts school improvement by providing an outline of the digital equity at the
school. By sharing this information with the school leaders that can make adjustments to access
in the school for all shareholders. By implementing the recommendations students will gain more
equitable access and increase student learning through the integration of technology tools.
Teachers will also gain more access to tools and have the opportunity to learn more about how to
implement the tools in the classroom. The impact of this experience could be assessed through
stakeholder surveys and observation by the school SIP team.
