3.6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources

Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources
for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure. (PSC 3.6/ISTE 3f)

The attached artifact is my emerging technology project from ITEC 7445. This project required
candidates to research an emerging technology in education and then present it to staff members
at school and to classmates. The goal of the project is for candidates to get confident in finding
new technology and sharing information with colleagues. The emerging technology that I chose
to research were Google Tools for education. The project was required to have an introduction,
what the technology does, how it can be used in the classroom, the benefits, and a survey to
gather feedback from the audience.

This artifact shows my mastery of standard 3.6 by showing how I can collaborate with teachers
and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and
compatibility with the school technology infrastructure. The decision to choose Google tools
rooted from my school being a trial school in the county with Google Tools. Even though we
have the tool most of the teachers at the school to not know how to use the tools. It show my
ability to choose tools that can be effectively used in the classroom and collaborate with teachers
by gaining their feedback on how we can better use this tool in our school. It shows my ability to
choose a tool suitable for my school by using the resources be have that work with Google tools
like Chromebooks.

From this experience I learned that it is important to have research that backs your suggestion for
technology tools. School leaders like to have facts and proof that the tools will be effective in the
school building and increase student learning. If I were to do this experience again I would try to
find even more case studies to back my argument. The school leaders respond well to case
studies so they can try to compare what has happened at other schools that used the technology
tools.

This experience will affect my whole school in a positive way. Teachers will now have better
knowledge of an effective technology tool that can be implemented into the classroom to
increase student learning. Students will get exposure to tools that will increase student
engagement and collaboration. If used correctly, teachers will be able to enhance their lessons
and challenge students to use higher order thinking skills. The impact of this experience can be
assessed through student/teachers surveys and observations.
