Hi Class of 1956. Hope you are all well and happy!

Ive been so fortunate as a senior

actor. It seems that those who produce TV/Films are finally realizing that people over 65
in the USA are living longer and healthier lives and want to see us Old People in their
entertainment! Wanted to let you know that I can be seen shortly on: The Marvelous
Mrs. Maisel as the pin lady; on Amazon, in July as Saundra Reese on Investigation

Discovery Channels Six Degrees of Murder; and on an upcoming Sesame Street

Special with Elisabeth Banks that will air on HBO in November as the bird lady. Also,
I did a wonderful funny Indie film called Long Term Delivery. If youd like to see it,
go to https://vimeo.com/220082491/2aec788476. Dont let anyone tell you youre too
old to do what you want!!...Love and best wishes to you all...Harri Molese 1956

A note about the Hicksville Then and Now video

BobA nice video that brings back a lot of memories. I remember going to Robert
Chevrolet for my first new used car in 1967 when I worked at the Sears Auto Center
across from the Mid Island Mall. Franks Alibi and Gabbys Western themed bar were
popular. I grew up in Levittown (1947-1963). The family shopped in Hicksville and
when my grandparents came to visit from New Jersey, we would pick them up at the
train, a noisy, smokey steam engine! Still a Long Islander. Thanks for the memories. John

I was talking this evening to my brother about grade school teachers. He was trying to
remember his kindergarten teacher from Old Country Road School. The year would have
been 1956. If anyone who went to OCR during that time can help I'd appreciate it. Also,
does anyone know where old class pictures can be found? Thanks in advance

Thanks

In 1953 I also had Miss Kessler and later on had Mr. Baker and then Miss Harris in 6th
gradeBarnett & Marsha Priceman

....and you lived on Admiral Lane, right?...James Rubins

I think he lived on Alpine. A section for sureLenore Graham

And Carey K is your wife's brother, correct? Note there were two Bakers. The 6th grade
was the "eccentric."Ken Marcus

52 Alpine Lane for sure. I spent much of my time back in the day hanging out with
Melody. Nadine and Barnett were pretty young then and their Mom, Beulah, was the
most wonderful woman. Nobody would mess with her because she was very aggressive
in defending her children. I remember when their dad passedRobert Casale

Hi CarolI am well. Thank you for asking. I hope you are also. I read the Newsday
article online about Billy Joel's appearance at the HHS graduation ceremony. That had to
be a thrill for all the graduates, as well as their parents and grandparents. My oldest
granddaughter just graduated high school (in Illinois). If she had graduated at HHS, I
would have loved to be thereBest wishesHenry

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. Sunday March 25, 2017 marked a special high school
homecoming for Billy Joel. The Piano Man spoke to this years graduating class at
Hicksville High School the school he was supposed to graduate from exactly 50 years
ago.
Its a thrill, Robin Zeller, a Hicksville High teacher said. Its really wonderful. Its a
wonderful model for the children and its a wonderful example, and his pride in
Hicksville is really heartfelt..
I think he gives us all a little inspiration to do great things just like he did, said Jared
Costa, a senior.

Believe it or not, Joel didnt actually graduate from the school with his class. Apparently,
he was just one credit shy of finishing his degree. But in 1992, he came back and
received an honorary degree from the school. Twenty-five years after that, Joel is back
again to inspire others, rain or shine.
Joel did not burst out singing Piano Man one of his very hits that made an instant
impact on the music industry and introduced Joel to the limelight.
I hope he instills in the students that this is the start of something wonderful for them,
Zeller said. He certainly accomplished that wish from Zeller.
Just follow your heart and go after your dreams, said Jennifer Salemo, a Hicksville
High graduate.
The graduation ceremony got under way at 10 a.m., with doors opening up at 9:30 a.m.
More than 400 additional non graduating students attended.

Musician and Hicksville High School alumnus Billy Joel was among those to watch the
Class of 2017 graduate at the annual commencement ceremony held this past weekend.
Joel, who was presented with a gift basket of Hicksville High School-themed
paraphernalia by Principal Raymond Williams before the ceremony, joined district
administrators on the dais to watch students march out to the melodious tune of Pomp
and Circumstance and take their seats in the gymnasium.
After members of the chorus sang the national anthem, Williams encouraged the
graduates to continue realizing their dreams and quoted author Marianne Williamson in
his address: It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We are all meant to
shine. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous.
Actually, who are you not to be?
Passion, combined with practice and grit, will lead to success, Williams continued. It
is the passion that serves as your fuel, the fuel to keep you going even when you get
knocked down. The difference between failing and successful people is being able to find
a way to regroup. Surround yourself with people who tell you what you need to hear, not
what you want to hear, and never give up.
In his speech, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carl Bonuso also spoke about the
importance of passion, and said that another crucial component for success is
compassion.
When passion and compassion are combined and individuals are able to spread a smile or
a kind word, he said, both sunny and rainy days are manageable.
Board Vice President Brenda Judson expressed excitement about the new beginnings that
await the graduates.

You are ready to start a new chapter in your lives a chapter where you write your
own stories, she said. Your future is yours and you will experience enormous joy in
creating your own life. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. When you
are determined to succeed, you will handle everything that comes in your way.
In their addresses, valedictorian Awaiss Butt and salutatorian Sailesh Srinivas spoke to
their classmates about the fond memories they have of their high school years, praised
school staff for their incredible support system, and wished their peers continued success
in the future.

Take risks and dont let opportunities go to waste, Butt said. Work hard pursuing your
ambitions and never forget to appreciate those who help you along the way. Block out
outside noise that may hinder you from achieving your dreams. As Kobe Bryant said,
everything negative pressure, challenges is all an opportunity for me to rise.

We have formed a lifelong bond, Srinivas said. Think about all the laughs, adventures
and hardships we have gone through with the friends surrounding you. I hope you
remember that no one has ever existed exactly like yourself, the way you were born. Each
one of you has something that this world, no, this universe, has never seen before. We
can go anywhere.

Following a performance by chorus students of one of his hit songs, The Longest Time,
Joel spoke to the graduates about the importance of finding a passion and doing a job
they would enjoy.
Right now, you are probably at the height of your idealism, Joel said. You need to
know what the right thing to do is. You may know what the smart thing to do is, you may
know what the convenient thing to do is, and you may know what the lucrative thing to
do is. But you may not always know the right thing. Who you are today is going to be
very important later on in life. Pick a job that you love, if you can. Im lucky I picked a
good job. I had a teacher here at Hicksville High who inspired me to become a musician.
The students were individually called upon to receive their diplomas and then collectively
moved their tassels from right to left afterward.
After an ovation from the crowd, the graduates then ceremoniously tossed their hats high
into the air.
So I just went to Price Choppers today to get a few things. At the express checkout, I
dropped a $20. This lady in front of me picked it up I said thanks. I told her that it was
mine and this lady said, "The things found on earth are kept by the collector," and started
walking away. I looked at the cashier who looked amazed as I was. I said, give me my
$20. This lady kept walking away so..... I followed her. When she got to her car, she put
her bags on the ground to open her door so I grabbed her bags and walked off. She
shouted "give me my bags" and I replied "The things found on earth are kept by the
collector!" I got in my car and drove off '. When I got home and opened the bags, there
was ribs, crab legs and about $200 worth of meat. Not bad for being upset over a $20 bill
huh? But in all seriousness this is a joke to see who reads the whole thing. If you did copy
& paste!!! And I did too! Lol!!...Linda Mastrosanti Aragoncillo 1961

As I am reading, I am thinking....you BETTER go after her Mrs. A. Yup, you got me.
Thank you for the chuckle Cindy Kerzner Lu

Youre welcome Cindy, this is the funniest one that I have read in a long time....imagine
that happening..... Linda

Im glad it was a joke - because you never know who youre dealing with - and if it had
been a true story - it might have been a bad idea to run after somebody like that - anyway
stay well and use a credit card instead of cash - ha ha ha - you can always cancel the card
- my best regards!...Olivia Lepis Schmidt

OliviaSometimes without realizing it, you do drop some money, but would you go
after the person and then take her groceries...there are too many people out there that you
have to be careful of...but it was funny, and it gave everyone a chuckle.......I'm glad.....we
need something like this once in a while......hope all is well with you.... Linda
I am a total pacifist...But, I also believe in protecting what's mine including family,
friends, possessions, etc. That's why I carry a stun gun & pepper spray. So, not only
would I have gotten my $20 back, I would have taken her groceries as well. Lol. Just
kidding about stealing her groceries. Not kidding about the rest Cindy

That was very goodDiana Urena

It really is a good joke...Linda

This is for all of those who grew up north of Woodbury Rd (that means you Janine Way);
this is Remi Wesnofke's farm in 1951. The South Oyster Bay / Northern State Parkway
clover leaf is shown at the top of the picture. Woodbury Rd is the road labeled "2". The
"V" is Remi's farm house which is now a Jewish Temple. My wife grew up across the
street from the temple, on the other side of So. Oyster Bay Rd in the development called
Clearview Village. Thanks to the Wesnofske's for operating a nice website and sharing

developed?...Vin

A note from Elaine to VinOur house was on Crescent St., which was a long street and
started at Woodbury Road. Crescent St. is probably in the section of houses in the middle
of the picture.

It looks like Crescent hits Woodbury Rd right where the number "2" is located. Yes?
Also, is that the old HiWay Tavern beneath the No. "2"?...Vin

Yes, I believe soElaine

Raimo's pizza shop used to be Josh's store.

July 4, 2017Over the years my wife and I have been asked a very personal question
about our family and it came up recently again. Please let us address this once and for all.
During our 57 years of marriage, we have given birth to 4 children, adopted 5 others and
were guardians of several others which also were given the option of adoption if desired.
For various reasons they opted to keep their birth family names and simply lived with us
as part of our family. We loved and treated them all equally.
The constant question we get asked is How much money did you get for all those kids?"
Since we never went through state agencies but opted for private adoptions and we never
received a dime for any of our children except two that are disabled. Most of my life I
worked a second job while pastoring and many of our children went to private Christian
schools. We do not desire praise or thanks, but also don't want criticism because we
simply did what we felt God wanted us to. The Bible clearly states, "...for him that
knoweth to do good and doeth it not it is sin."Bob Bolettieri and Alberta Hunt

A young couple drove several miles down a country road, not saying a word. An
earlier discussion had led to an argument, and neither wanted to concede their
position.
As they passed a barnyard of mules and pigs, the husband sarcastically asked,
"Are they relatives of yours?"
"Yes," his wife replied. "I married into the family."

The U.S.S. Constitution (Old Ironsides)

as a combat vessel carried 48,600 gallons of fresh water for her crew of 475 officers and
men. This was sufficient to last six months of sustained operations at sea. She carried no
evaporators (i.e. fresh water distillers). However, let it be noted that according to her
ship's log, "On July 27, 1798, the U.S.S. Constitution sailed from Boston with a full
complement of 475 officers and men,

48,600 gallons of fresh water,

7,400 cannon shot,
11,600 pounds of black powder and
79,400 gallons of rum."
Her mission: "To destroy and harass English shipping."
Making Jamaica on 6 October, she took on 826 pounds of flour and 68,300 gallons of
rum. Then she headed for the Azores, arriving there 12 November... She provisioned with
550 pounds of beef and 64,300 gallons of Portuguese wine. On 18 November, she set sail
for England. In the ensuing days she defeated five British men-of-warships, and captured
and scuttled 12 English merchant ships, salvaging only the rum aboard each.
By 26 January, her powder and shot were exhausted.
Nevertheless, although unarmed she made a night raid up the Firth of Clyde in Scotland...
Her landing party captured a whisky distillery and transferred 40,000 gallons of single
malt Scotch aboard by dawn. Then she headed home.
The U. S. S. Constitution arrived in Boston on 20 February 1799,
with no cannon shot, no food, no powder, no rum, no wine, no scotch whisky,
but they had 38,600 gallons of waterGO NAVY!

If you enjoy summer salad, check out the salad I used to make for me and my girlfriend
when I was living in New York. She was the griller and I was the salad maker. After
having the salad, the rest of the meal took a backseat until the urge to eat hit home. Great
salad and so many veggies, enough to knock your socks off...lettuce, tomato, red
cabbage, spinach, red, green, yellow and orange bell pepper, pickled beets, dill pickle, red
onion, carrots, (no mushrooms...Ugg), Swiss cheese and croutons. Sometimes additional
stuff when in season. Oh, so good!!! With your choice of dressing...I liked balsamic...I
now found Olive Garden dressing in Walmart and use their Italian dressing that is oh, so
good on my modified salad. Used, too, some of the veggies Sharon and I grew in our
garden. Miss the big garden. Now have a small deck garden...no pictures of the pathetic
garden are shown...but I have green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach and lettuce
growing...can't wait for the resulting veggies.
Don't know if this would be of interest to HixNews readers, but I read about this tidbit of
information in a supermarket magazine. When you buy sliced bread, check the twist tie
that secures the top. It actually tells you the day the bread was made.
Monday - blue
Tuesday - green
Wed - there is none
Thursday - red
Friday - white
Saturday yellow

If you do not own a Red Copper Frying Pan, you are missing out on an incredible
kitchen utensil that is fun to use and great when its time to clean-up. It heats very evenly
and seems to cook faster than a Teflon pan.

Nothing sticks to the cooking surface and you can use a metal spoon when preparing
meals using this pan. Stick it under a stream of water to clean and wipe with a sponge to
thoroughly remove any residue that survives the rinse with water.
Which way to the Barbecue? What do you mean we are the Barbecue???

Shortly after 4am on Thursday, June 29, after numerous delays and scrubs, NASAs
Wallops Flight Facility has a successful rocket launch which triggered colorful, glowing
clouds for many to see over the Mid Atlantic.
The NASA Terrier-Improved Malemute sounding rocket brought a payload of canisters
more than 90 miles above the Earths surface; these canisters deployed various
substances to trigger the glowing clouds high in the sky. The Ampoule Test Launch is
designed to support science around the study of aurora. The vapor tracers are formed
through the interaction of barium, strontium, and cupric-oxide. Because these tracers are
released at altitudes of 96-124 miles high, NASA says they pose absolutely no hazard to
residents along the Mid-Atlantic coast.

This article is not intended to frighten anyone but is designed to inform as we are all
aging and subject to many maladies that can control our lives.

Many people wrote to Bufbob after reading his Facebook note about his experience
concerning his wife Joyces bout with Alzheimers. Those who responded told about
their similar experiences. Included were personal challenges and some that included
friends and other family members. It was then I decided to share my personal journey.

My dear Husband, Claude, was diagnosed with Alzheimers the latter part of 2007. He
was active, physically fit and running a large business that he founded in 1964. However,
my sons and I started to notice something was off with him. Some of his antics were not
normal and he, as well, said, "I think theres something wrong with me".
The family doctor said after an initial diagnosis, "it appears to be dementia or
Alzheimers, His condition is only going to get worse and you'll have to put him away".
We went for a second opinion and the next array of doctors we visited
were Neurologists, specialists in their field. Their diagnosis was equally pessimistic.
Their approach was to load him up on all kinds of pills and some had many very adverse
effects. It was as if they were using Claude as a walking experiment for them and other
doctors and drug companies.
It was then that I started keeping "The List"; every drug he had been
put on and every and any reaction to them. The list was perpetual and an updated copy
went to the pharmacy and his doctors. When hospitals got involved and when Claude was
admitted, a copy became part of his medical record.
My Husband insisted that our Wills be in order as well as granting Power of Attorney to
me, especially when referencing health issues,
He insisted that all our properties be transferred to me so that when he died there would
be no mistake as to his wishes and no problems with deeds and ownership. Those tasks
were completed and his mind was finally at ease.
Along with the "Drug List" we kept copies of all pertinent documents in the glove
compartment of the car. It proved to be a good thing, too, because everyone required
them; i.edoctors, hospitals, pharmacy and his health providers.
Something was gnawing at me as I watched this man go from a vibrant person to
someone that was a shell of himself. He would sometimes list (as a ship sinking) to one
side, very slowly till he fell - always the left side. Blood pressure would fluctuate
constantly and there were digestion as well as other bodily functions that would fail a
little at a time. Then, miraculously, the next day, they would be gone.
He did get the "Moonlighting" associated with dementia and the next day would ask me if
he did something stupid the night before. I always, emphatically, said, "no".
After seven years of this never ending dilemma, after many doctors and many trial
drugs, I took him to a Professional Geriatric Physician. I gave the doctor the list of drugs
and hospital admissions over the years. He examined my Claude for 2 hours, asked me a
lot of questions and said to me, "Your Husband has Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). He
then went on to explain what that was and why it is so often confused with Alzheimers.
MSA is a degenerative neurologic condition that affects both men and women. It is
considered a type of Parkinson but with a more widespread effect on the brain and body.
It was first identified in 1962 by two doctors who named the affliction Shy-Drager. They
were the initial team who reported patients showing a combination of Parkinson-like
movement disorder and who also showed problems with a body regulating division of the
nervous system. One woman interviewed by the doctors had a relative that survived 18
years after the diagnosis while nine years seemed to be the normal time frame for
survival.
My husband lasted two more years. He always knew me and our sons would write on
Post-It-Notes all day long. Claude was doing the same and, in my mind, I thought he
honestly believed he was back in business and making notes for different customers.
When he died, I found the notes in pockets of his clothes and dresser draws. They were
love notes to me and notes thanking me for taking care of him. The poor man knew
something was wrong with himself. That was the sadness of the disease. With dementia,
the afflicted just doesnt know because the disease produces memory loss. With MSA, he
obviously knew something was happening but couldnt do anything to reverse the disease
and he did remember.
51 years of a great marriage, a relationship that was very special. In addition to the
many memories, I have every one of those notes to reflect on as the days go on. As I
write this today, it would have been our 53rd wedding anniversary. May you have found
peace my sweetheart, I will always love you. Linda
For more information on MSA go to www.multiplesystematrophy.org or Google MSA
and you will find much more information than was provided above.
I hope some of you find this helpful as not all doctors know of this. Linda Piccerelli

We have entered your name into the August newsletter as a new reader. We normally
close out the subsequent newsletter on the 24th or 25th of the month, so that is why you
are not in the July issue. This allows the editors to do their editing.
You are the very first person to ever sign up for inclusion on the Google HixNews master
list from a graduating class. Would you have a photo that you can scan and send to us?
Also, introduce yourself in a bio sketch that we can include with your being welcomed to
HixNews. Past education, plans for the future, family, siblings and your far reaching
goals. Thanks for your interest in HixNews. Regardsbuffalo bob Casale

I was born in Brooklyn, New York and lived there up until right after I graduated from
middle school. Right after graduation, my family and I moved to Hicksville where I
started 9th grade. I will be attending Alfred University in the fall and will major in
criminal justice. I have 2 older brothers who attended college and majored in business. As
for the far future, I hope to be a lawyer. If I had to do it all over again, I wish that I

would've been just a little more involved in school activities. Now that high school is
over, I miss all the fun activities the class/school did as a group. I'll definitely miss my
time spent here in Hicksville high schoolSanwal

The older you get the tougher it is to lose weight because by then your body and
your fat have gotten to be really good friends.
Hi everyoneI wanted to let those who knew my mom

Carmen Markey passed away on July 7th after a long battle with COPD. She was
surrounded by her children and grandchildren. We are all now in Phoenix, Arizona but
will have a memorial in New York within the next few months.

Just learned that my sister-in-law's brother, Peter Zeiher passed away yesterday. He was a
long-time employee of the Hicksville Water District. I don't know the arrangements yet. I
won't be able to attend as I have no transportation. I believe it will be held in
Brightwaters. Please say a prayer for him, my sister-in-law, Marilyn Zeiher Reinhardt
and the entire family. Thank you!...Virginia Cabbe Reinhardt

I decided to post in the group, in case anyone didn't know, my fiance', John Boesenberg
passed away on May 17. John and I are both graduates of HHS class of 1974. He was a
very private man, but I thought anyone who may have known him besides our graduating
class would want to know. I miss him terriblyGod blessMarianne Bosman

With a heavy heart, we regretfully announce that Little John Dizek, front man and lead
singer for The Hassles, sadly passed away last night. He will be greatly missed, and our
promise to him is simple: We will never give up. John and the entire Hassles band will be
inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame someday.
Thank you John for the music, laughs, conversation, support and love. You will be
missed tremendously, and your legacy continues onJoe Pastori

So sad to tell you we lost Our Dear Friend and Brother tonight, John Dizek who was the
Lead Vocalist for The Hassles, the band that made Billy Joel a Superstar. John was one of
the Absolute Nicest people I've ever met. John was Such a Great Dad, Grandpa, and a
friend to so many. He was a Man of Great Dignity and Class and because he was a Great
Christian, I know he will have an easy journey enroute to his final concert in the sky. We
will Always Truly Miss You but Know youre in our Souls. Rest in Eternal Peace Always
and Forever My Beautiful Friend...Debbie McGregor

For those of you who knew my sister Debbie Rosman Doerlamm (from Hicksville High
class of 1973), she died this morning after a battle with cancer. May she rest in
