DEPARTMENT OF STANDARDS MALAYSIA
DEVELOPMENT OF MALAYSIAN STANDARDS

The Department of Standards Malaysia (STANDARDS MALAYSIA) is the national

standards and accreditation body of Malaysia.

The main function of STANDARDS MALAYSIA is to foster and promote standards,

standardisation and accreditation as a means of advancing the national economy,
promoting industrial efficiency and development, benefiting the health and safety of
the public, protecting the consumers, facilitating domestic and international trade and
furthering international cooperation in relation to standards and standardisation.

Malaysian Standards (MS) are developed through consensus by committees which

comprise balanced representation of producers, users, consumers and others with
relevant interests, as may be appropriate to the subject at hand. To the greatest
extent possible, Malaysian Standards are aligned to or are adoption of international
standards. Approval of a standard as a Malaysian Standard is governed by the
Standards of Malaysia Act 1996 [Act 549]. Malaysian Standards are reviewed
periodically. The use of Malaysian Standards is voluntary except in so far as they are
made mandatory by regulatory authorities by means of regulations, local by-laws or
any other similar ways.

STANDARDS MALAYSIA has appointed SIRIM Berhad as the agent to develop,

distribute and sell the Malaysian Standards.

MS ISO 1833-11:2011

NATIONAL FOREWORD

The adoption of the ISO Standard as a Malaysian Standard was recommended by the
Technical Committee on Textile Raw Materials and Chemical Tests under the authority of the
Industry Standards Committee on Textiles and Apparels.

This Malaysian Standard is the first revision of MS ISO 1833, Textiles - Binary fibre mixtures -
Quantitative chemical analysis.

This Malaysian Standard is identical with ISO 1833-11:2006, Textiles - Quantitative chemical
analysis - Part 11: Mixtures of cellulose and polyester fibres (method using sulfuric acid),
published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). However, for the
purposes of this Malaysian Standard, the following apply:

a) in the source text, this International Standard should read this Malaysian Standard;
and

b) the comma which is used as a decimal sign (if any), to read as a point.

MS ISO 1833 consists of the following parts, under the general title, Textiles - Quantitative
chemical analysis:

Part 1: General principles of testing

Part 2: Ternary fibre mixtures

Part 3: Mixtures of acetate and certain other fibres (method using acetone)

Part 4: Mixtures of certain protein and certain other fibres (method using hypochlorite)

Part 5: Mixtures of viscose, cupro or modal and cotton fibres (method using sodium
zincate)

Part 6: Mixtures of viscose or certain types of cupro or modal or lyocell and cotton fibres
(method using formic acid and zinc chloride

Part 7: Mixtures of polyamide and certain other fibres (method using formic acid)

Part 8: Mixtures of acetate and triacetate fibres (method using acetone)

Part 9: Mixtures of acetate and triacetate fibres (method using benzyl alcohol)

Part 10: Mixtures of triacetate or polylactide and certain other fibres (method using
dichloromethane)

Part 11: Mixtures of cellulose and polyester fibres (method using sulfuric acid)

NATIONAL FOREWORD (continued)

Part 12: Mixtures of acrylic, certain modacrylics, certain chlorofibres, certain elastanes and
certain other fibres (method using dimethylformamide)

Part 13: Mixtures of certain chlorofibres and certain other fibres (method using carbon
disulfide/acetone)

Part 14: Mixtures of acetate and certain chlorofibres (method using acetic acid)

Part 15: Mixtures of jute and certain animal fibres (method by determining nitrogen content)

Part 16: Mixtures of polypropylene fibres and certain other fibres (method using xylene)

Part 17: Mixtures of chlorofibres (homopolymers of vinyl chloride) and certain other fibres
(method using sulfuric acid)

Part 18: Mixtures of silk and wool or hair (method using sulfuric acid)

Part 19: Mixtures of cellulose fibres and asbestos (method by heating)

Part 20: Mixtures of elastane and certain other fibres (method using dimethylacetamide)

Part 21: Mixtures of chlorofibres, certain modacrylics, certain elastanes, acetates,

triacetates and certain other fibres (method using cyclohexanone)

Part 22: Mixtures of viscose or certain types of cupro or modal or lyocell and flax fibres
(method using formic acid and zinc chlorate)

Part 23: Mixtures of polyethylene and polypropylene (method using cyclohexanone)

Part 24: Mixtures of polyester and some other fibres (method using phenol and
tetrachloroethane)

This Malaysian Standard cancels and replaces MS ISO 1833:2003.

Compliance with a Malaysian Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal
obligations.

NOTE. IDT on the front cover indicates an identical standard i.e. a standard where the technical content, structure,
and wording (or is an identical translation) of a Malaysian Standard is exactly the same as in an International
Standard or is identical in technical content and structure although it may contain the minimal editorial changes
specified in clause 4.2 of ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
