Paolo Griffin

Liminal Luminosity was written for the Hodiernal Quartet for their inaugural
concert. An extended set of gestures combines with the broader concept of the
work (a move from complexity in sound to simplicity via filtering and vice versa)
to create a work wherein the four instruments are treated as one moving mass of
sound. Clear sound points are set up at the beginning and end of sections,
creating anchors for the instruments to move to and from. Moments of fluid
languidness suddenly erupt in action before flowing back; always moving and
connected, and ever present is the dichotomy between clearly delineated
sections and the blurred lines of sound within them.

Ivan Babinchak
Common highest at common loudest at common longest (With Tony Conrad in
mind).

He is a 24-year-old rationalist, disturbed especially by the apparently senseless

suffering in the world, depicted as highly intelligent. Ivan's relationship with his
father and brothers has been rather superficial since the beginning. He is almost
repulsed by his father, and had no positive affection towards Dmitri. While he
doesn't dislike Alexei, he didn't have any deep affection for him either until more
recently.
