Installation Procedure
Preps 5.1.1 is available as a full installer for new installations or as an updater for
existing Preps installations.

Installing Full Preps 5.1.1

Before you start, note that this release of Preps requires a valid Preps 5.x license and
dongle. The installer places the software into a new folder called Preps 5.1.
To install the software, insert the Preps 5.1.1 CD and then select the appropriate
procedure for the operating system:

Mac OS X v10.3
1. Double-click the Preps_5-1-1_Installer.dmg icon to open the Preps disk image.
2. Drag the Preps 5.1 folder to the Applications folder.

Windows
1. Double-click the Preps_5-1-1_Installer.exe to start the installer.
2. Follow the instructions as they appear until installation is complete.

Installing Preps 5.1.1 Update

Use this procedure only if Preps 5.1 is already installed on the computer. If this is a
new installation of Preps or if you are upgrading from Preps 5.0.x or earlier, you
require the full Preps 5.1.1 Installer (see previous section).
Ensure that Preps is not running before installing the update.
Download the Preps 5.1.1 updater from the Preps Downloads page on http://
www.creo.com/.
To complete the installation, follow the correct procedure for the operating system:

Mac OS X v10.3
1. Copy the Preps_5-1-1_Updater.pkg.bin file to the hard drive.
2. Decompress the file and then double-click the Preps 5.1.1 Updater.pkg icon.
This starts the installer and updates Preps 5.1 to Preps 5.1.1.

Windows
1. Double-click Preps_5-1-1_Updater.exe to start the installer.
2. Follow the instructions as they appear.
Introduction 3

Uninstalling Preps 5.1.1 Update

These procedures describe how to revert to the most recent Preps update (5.1)
before the current one (5.1.1).

Mac OS X v10.3
1. Delete the Preps 5 file from the Preps 5.1 folder.
2. Rename the Preps 5.1 (old) file to Preps 5.
3. Delete the Preps 5.1.1 Updater.pkg installation receipt from the MacHD/
Library/Receipts folder. (This assumes that MacHD is the name of the drive on
which Preps is installed; otherwise, substitute the actual drive name.)
Important:
This step is very important if you plan to reinstall the Preps 5.1.1 update
later. If you do not delete the installation receipt and later attempt to
reinstall the update, an error message informs you that the Preps 5.1.1
update has already been installed.

Windows
1. To uninstall, double-click the Restore51.bat file in the Preps 5.1 folder.
2. Delete the Restore511.bat file because it is no longer useful.

Enhancement
Default CJK Text-Mark Fonts for Preview and Output RIP
You can change the default font used for Japanese or Simplified Chinese text mark.
For Preview text marks, you can only use a font that does not require a license. TA
separate text mark font can be specified for output RIP files.
1. Place a copy of the PostScript font file that you want to use in the Preps/RIP/
Resource/CIDFont folder.

2. Open that file in a text editor and note or copy the font name and character
collection as specified in the files title linefor example, the title might be
%%Title: (HeiseiMin-W3 Adobe Japan1 2).

3. Open the default.cfg file in a text editor and locate the applicable lines. The
actual values might be differentfor example, if this is a Japanese file:
-CJK_TEXTMARKFONTNAME:Sazanami-Mincho-Regular
-CJK_TEXTMARKFONTNAMEPREVIEW:Sazanami-Mincho-Regular
-CJK_TEXTMARKCHARACTERCOLLECTION:Adobe-Japan1-2
RIP font:
-CJK_TEXTMARKFONTNAME specifies the default font that the output RIP uses
to render the mark.
Preview font:
-CJK_TEXTMARKFONTNAMEPREVIEW specifies the default font that will be used
by Preps Preview to display text marks.
4 Preps 5.1.1 Release Notes

4. Replace the values with the new font informationfor example:

-CJK_TEXTMARKFONTNAME:HeiseiMin-W3
-CJK_TEXTMARKFONTNAMEPREVIEW:HeiseiMin-W3
-CJK_TEXTMARKCHARACTERCOLLECTION:Adobe-Japan1-2
Important: There must be no spaces in the values you specify in the .cfg file. Be
