Kinetic Particle Theory Answers

Kinetic Particle Theory

1. Using the concept of Kinetic Particle Theory to explain the following:

(a) The perfume particles absorbed the energy from our skin and use up the energy to overcome
the attractive forces between the molecules so that the molecules can move randomly and
freely.

(b) There are lesser particles in gas per unit volume and those particles packed in solid state for
the same volume. Therefore, the mass of gas in the same volume is lower than that of the
mass of solid.

2.

(b) The heat energy has been used up to overcome the attractive forces between the
particles.

(c) This substance has a boiling point of 215 oC, not 100 oC which is the boiling point of
water.

3. The moist red litmus paper turned blue first then the moist blue litmus paper turned red.

This is because ammonia has a relative molecular mass of 17 while hydrogen chloride
has a relative molecular mass of 36.5. Ammonia molecules with the lower relative
molecular mass diffused faster than the hydrogen chloride molecules.
