EMPOWER

Spaces: Good and Bad

All of us have, at times, experienced feelings of discomfort

even in the most opulent and well-decorated houses. On the
other hand, we have often felt very relaxed in surroundings,
which may be sparse and small. This is mainly due to the
subtle electromagnetic radiations or energies within those
spaces, which affect us in very definite and tangible ways.
Can we measure their effects? Yes, we can.
How? By recording the pulse rate or blood pressure of a person
using that space, both inside the space and outside. A lower
count generally denotes a higher degree of body comfort.

Positive or Negative Energies

These energies, like electricity, are bio-electromagnetic in

nature. They can be detected and measured with scientific
instruments .Their flow can be altered and enhanced by
symbols, mirrors and colours in the same manner as a
microchip would absorb, transmit or alter radiations and data.

Shape of the plot and Building

The most preferred plot shapes are squares, circles or

rectangles. For work and dwelling units, square and
rectangular shapes are preferred, since it is easy to define and
construct definite space for specific activities within them. A
square leads to efficient use of space and feeling of comfort,
since a person standing in the centre can perceive all sides
equally well. It also enables good circulation of energies and
functional movement. The use of multisided plots creates
jagged energy flows and agitation. You can imagine a ball
bouncing in the space to imagine the agitation that can be
created .The only exception is the case when the shape is
elongated in the north-east. This is so, because the energies of
the earth flow from the north-east.

Surrounding Areas

Many people would believe that a public temple, a church or a

mosque adjoining a house or within the boundaries of a house
is auspicious. However, this is not so. Sounds preposterous,
even blasphemous, doesn’t it?
The energies of such monuments are so strong and
overpowering that a normal human body cannot be subjected
to them constantly .Moreover, these monuments are visited by
a constant stream of devotees who cause tremendous energy
turbulence around the house. These energies are largely
negative. Such structures should be at least ten to fifteen
metres away. If this is not possible, some virtual barriers have
to be created.

Effect of Materials

It is also important while using materials like good, lime, stone

slabs and marble to study the grain structure of the same and
try to place it in the same orientation as its place of origin. The
craftsmen who used these materials in in earlier times did
ensure that this orientation was respected. Imagine your door
to be tree and the tree to be placed upside down. Improper
placement causes reversal in energy flow, which causes
discomfort and ill health. In ancient forts, the steps were
constructed with the negatively charged surface of the stone
facing outwards. The steps wear also high and narrow. The Idia
was to make it difficult for an invading army to climb up
quickly and subject it constantly to negative radiation. This
made it easier for the defending army to fight the invaders.

Mirrors bounce back energies and should not be placed in

front of the bed since sleeping areas require calm and tranquil
energies. They should also not be placed facing the entrance
or the workplace as they would bounce back the energies
trying to enter inside.

Position of the Building within the Plot

To allow maximum energies to flow into the plot, it is

recommended that if the plot is much larger than the structure
proposed to be built on it, the maximum and highest built area
should be in the south-west, the north-east should be vacant
and clean. However, if the building is likely to occupy all
quadrants, the northeast should be lowest in height. If this is
not possible, put an angle or a rod of a suitable length at the
edge of the quadrant or corner that you wish to raise so that it
becomes the highest point in the building.
It is obvious that more land should be vacant in the north
and east as compared to the south or west to allow energies to
flow in form the north and east settle in the south and the
west.

Location of Doors

Doors allow energies to enter and flow into a house. Naturally,

they should open inwards to allow that to happen. Moreever,
they should be located in a part or segment of the wall that
allows the earth’s energies to flow through. Magnetic energies
flow from north to south in the northern hemisphere and vice
versa in the southern hemisphere, and east to west in both
hemispheres because of the rotation of the earth. Thus, if the
plot is aligned cardinally, the door can be in the south or the
west.

As shown above, the doors in a plot or a house which is

diagonal with respect to the cardinal direction are positioned
in the corners.
Toilet doors should open outwards so that they do not drain
away the energies from the house or workplace, and there
should be placed such that they do not obstruct the flow of
energies in to the plot or house as shown in the diagram.

People often subconsiquencly choose to live in houses with

doors opening in a particular direction depending on there
aspirations, their profession and the effects that they desire
from the house. As per Vaastu Shastra, people stay in houses
with door facing north if they desire wealth, happiness and
prosperity; in houses with the door facing the east if they are
inclinding spiritually. Those who stay in west-facing houses
may end up traveling frequently, and people who are primarily
engaged in business and commerce should live in south-facing
houses.

Corrections with plants, Colours and Other Means

1. Plot Shap:-
If the plot is not square or rectangular, we can make it so
by cutting off the extra portion with a line of lime, or a
single line of brickwork.

2. Missing Coprners:-
If the corner of a house or a plot is missing , we can
complete the corner by again drawing a line with lime or
brick-mortar . If this is not possible, we can put a mirror on
the wall in front of the corner so that the existing space is
double and is projected into the missing portion.

3. Toilets:-
Toilets need to be isolated energetically. Feng shui
prescribes putting a mirror in front of the toilet door to
reflect back the energies into the house so that they do not
enter the toilet.Crystalisation of toilets or putting mirrors on
all sides of the toilet is also prescribed sometimes to confine
the energies of the toilet within itself. This, of course, is not
generally practical or feasible to implement. However, in the
bedrooms, mirrors should not face one another.

4. Wrong Position Of Entrances:-

We can correct the flows of these entrances by putting a

swastika, clockwise spiral or image of Ganesha on either
side of the door exactly half way from the bottom to the
top, or putting the same on top of the door exactly in the
centre of the opening.
5. Colours:-
House energies can be corrected by using eight colours in
the eight cardinal and diagonal corners of the house as
described in detail in the chapter on colours. This is a
simple method of correcting and enhancing energies
within a room or an entired building.
While painting a building, the use of bright colours in
light pastel shades creates an atmosphere of joy and
vivacity, where as dull grey and brown would induce
boredom and inactivity.Glossy surfaces are preffered in
indoor spaces where abundant natural light is not
available and matt finishes are preffered for outer walls
so that they absorb heat and light and do not reflect
them on those approaching, there by making them
uncomfortable.

6. Use of plants:-
Plants can be used to soften the effect of sharp edges
and minimize the effect of negative electrical radiations.
Of course, care should be taken not to keep cacti, dried
flowers, dead leaves and plants as they create and give
rise to want, deprivation and decay . Money plants, which
are very popular can be found in almost every house are
diseased plante, which affect the nervous system, and
enhance stress, and should be kept away from the house
and the plot.

7. Ceiling heights:-
Avoid low ceilings as they literally create pressure and
increase your bloods pressure, The most important
correction is to keep your house clean and have minimum
storage. Look at all that you have collected over the
years. Only keep what is absolutely necessary for now
and not something, which you may need tomorrow, or
you may like to look at some day. Throw or give away the
rest. Then try to halve what is left behind. Clutter in the
house or in the workplace creates clutter in life and in our
minds.

8. Light A Candle:-

‘Light a candle and bring happiness in to your life.’ No

truer statement has ever been made. Do this in the
centre of the house and see the difference it makes to
your life and health. Care should be taken that only one
candle or an odd number of candles burn inside a house.

9. Salt Water:-

Occasionally clean, the floors of the house with water

mixed with rock salt. This dispels negative energies.

10. Light and air:-

Allow light and fresh air to come in. Switch off your air
conditioners occasionally, even at the risk of allowing some
dust in. The glass clad high-rise architectural marvels being
built all over are an environmental nightmare. They re-
circulate stale air further polluted by room fresheners and
consume too much electricity for cooling the trapped heat
inside.
